agree, he probably has a good win percentage, but so does the bloke running Cottingham Rangers under 12' s
Downgrade is a bit harsh Syd. Yes its an inferior league to the championship but he has won the domestic double in Slovenia. He's also got experience managing in the Europa and Champions League. But your right, he's unproven in England. Saying that, if there was an English equivalent to Reira, someone who's won the league and the cup that also has experience in Europe... he'd be going to bigger clubs than us.
Does he last the season is the bigger question Is it in poor taste to have a competition for when hes sacked? Could be fun
He is not. Just a punt (when we needed stability). Just some wild hope that we land on some magic formula. And the tools he will be provided are cast offs from Turkey and speculative youth punts from prem teams.
when things are going against you on the pitch, with injuries and you lose games you probably should have and you play unorthodox football, the one thing you need to do as a manager, is have the players on your side, ange kept them on his side all season, i wonder what could have been if walter was a better man manager
He’s better than the ones we’ve been credibly linked with and on paper, he’s won/achieved more than Sellés and Walter, albeit in a weaker league. One of the criticisms Walter got before he was even announced as head coach was that he won nothing despite his novel style of play. No promotions and no trophies. Riera at least has won a league title and two domestic cups during his time in Slovenia. Winning a domestic double in your first ever season as a head coach is impressive even if it was in the Slovenian league. He might be another Slutsky. He might be decent. I don’t know. He’s a more appealing option than most of the names we’ve been linked with.
the recruitment is far bigger than who the manager is in my opinion we may get a couple more wins with fine margins but our currently available squad is ****, obviously injuries and the transfer windows not even started yet think with birmingham and wrexham probably going to not be fighting relegation, it makes it potentially tougher at the bottom
Wrexham are sniffing, aren't they? Seem to be linked to a load of freebies..Not sure about Bamford, though. Is he on a Bos?
Plus, being objective, you have to consider Riera's playing career: Spanish full international and played for some top sides in Europe.
I’m not sure how much difference it makes. He was good as a player but not world class. Some of the world class players have done alright but others not so much. Lampard’s done alright but Rooney and Gerrard haven’t been great. Şahin had a decent playing career. I still think he’s a bright young coach but the Dortmund job came too soon. He did a decent job coaching Antalyaspor but the Dortmund job was like Lampard going from Derby to Chelsea. Too big a job too soon.
He thinks we're a game show, doesn't he? Why in gods name would he think someone we've never heard of is the ideal candidate for the hot seat.
Not like they (Celje) win every year like the trophies Shota won as a manager either. Pretty impressive really.
How anyone can say he's an improvement or not I've no idea. He is totally different from Selles though. I watched bits of Celje v Fiorentina 2nd leg which is online and I really liked the way they played, that's of course inline with my own preference for football.
To be honest, I’m not against coaches who haven’t coached in the Championship or even England as much as others are. Le Bris has done a tremendous job at Sunderland this season and I even think Thorup was unfairly sacked by Norwich. Cifuentes came from the Swedish league and has done an okay job at QPR. Of course, Sunderland’s owners are far more sensible and wealthier than our owner.
