Whether the new guy is an upgrade on Sellés remains to be seen but it’s difficult to come into a workplace in a leadership position when the staff are bitter about their previous boss being unceremoniously sacked. When Rosenior was sacked or going to be sacked, Coyle and Greaves both practically begged Acun to reconsider. Walter was incredibly abrasive so the players just didn’t warm to him at all. They went from a guy they finished 7th under and who was approachable and personable to a guy who refused to speak to them unless it was a bollocking, never did one-to-one meetings and got Dawson and his two assistants to his dirty work, all the while asking them to play a style of football that was akin to reinventing the wheel.
https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/how-much-every-dogukan-sinik-appearance-has-cost-hull-city/ Although, it has to be argued that £5,000 per week and £260,000 per year - £780,000 over the course of his contract - would have been better invested in someone who could have fulfilled their potential and justified such a hefty price tag.
No manager can be guaranteed success, but having experience of the league can be a bit more protection against things going wrong.
You are not spending 4m on a player who is then being paid 5k a week, I don't care what Football League World think.
What if you hadn't been pulling your weight? Would you feel sorry for them but be glad you haven't been caught? The players are more responsible for where we are than anyone. Their actions are the ones that have most consequences from a football side of things. Slater missed some sitters for us under Walter. We've had ropey defending all season under three managers. We've seen Kamara trot about like a lost pony instead of tracking back and helping his midfield. It's all documented on here in the match day threads by lots of people. However we seem intent on blaming Tim Walter and Acun for everything. At what point do we look back, game for game, and ask questions of players that consistently failed to deliver? Disregarding the long term injured there are probably 5 or 6 players who can hold their heads up this season for me, Pandur, Macca (did an awesome job out of his comfort zone) Puerta, Pedro/Joseph (both led the line well but lack of goals is a problem) and Amrabat (purely because he seemed to give a toss and tried to make things happen). They did what was asked of them and didn't really let us down. The rest were a shower most of the time, take away a handful of good performances on the road.
Yes, where he said the manager is getting sacked every 6 months. That means regardless of how well the manager did. I.e. Rosenior, i.e. Selles. As he liked my response I suspect he agreed with my build on his point.
Fair enough. I personally would see it as an inconvenience at best. I don’t mind change but if things are changing too often, it suggests there’s a deeper problem with the organisation.
I am not sure if football is different from any other industry but most people I have worked with are just happy to have a job and good pay. If a Manager leaves, there is initial surprise but someone else comes in, and unless the new boss is a complete ****, the staff soon forget and things return to normal.
"If some of the players are annoyed that Sellés was sacked, it wouldn’t surprise me at all. It was the same when Rosenior was sacked. Call them crybabies all you want but it’s not good for morale. I’d be pissed off if my line manager was sacked every six months for no good reason." I'm really not sure what you're arguing about here, the connection between players reaction to churn is perfectly reasonable. It's in the first sentence.
I'm really not sure what you're arguing about as I didn't disagree and in fact built on that point to say the players will absolutely be annoyed at the constant manager churn. I made a point that you've come in to tell me I wasn't actually making. Bizarre. You making some comment about how they'll be happy if the manager is good is entirely missing the point Kalman and I are making which is that they'll be happy until that manager is sacked at which point they'll be annoyed again. It's literally the entire point.
Didn’t we have the 4th best defence in the division under Selles? That wasn’t the problem - attacking was. That Kamara line is mentioned a lot - but I remember him tracking back fairly consistently? There were occasions but he often popped up back in our own box. Considering his default position is basically a wide forward I think he did his fair share and the midfield themselves should be looked at more than he was.
I'm not underestimating anything. If it costs that much to buy a player they will be on more than 5k a week or they wouldn't bother coming. It has long been reported that he is on a big wage and I don't really care what some third rate aggregator says about it.
That number's from Capology, which is about as reliable as asking my mum what his wages were and she's never watched a football match in her life.
