When I witnessed Jones have a little run into midfield and further, we lost the ball, no one had covered, they scored. Jones came trotting back trying to recover his breath, I realised either the players had no understanding of what was expected or his system had zero chance of working. That was quite well into his role.
This isn’t the appointment I would have wanted but at least this guy has been successful at a decent club and has experience of winning. I am more hopeful than I was ahead of any of the other appointments Acun has made.
I notice there are less posters calling people out as bed wetters etc. Either they are on holiday or they must be starting to wonder.
There seemed to be an outpouring of frustration when Selles was sacked, most reasonable people thought he at least deserved the start of the new campaign. As time went by, more fans accepted the situation, but this felt dependant on Acun appointing someone who was clearly an upgrade on Selles. If it is Jakirovic who comes in, then Acun has wholeheartedly failed in this task. Jakirovic has a back catalogue of jobs well done, he shows promise, he might be the new Thomas Frank. And there lies the issue, ‘he might’, we don’t know, no Championship, or English experience…it is a punt. Then there is the elephant in the room. Acun has brought in ‘football people’ to ensure smart, well thought out decisions are made. By all accounts Dublin and Hodge fit the brief. Now, tell me, if Dublin and Hodge were sat alone in a room, what is the likelihood that they would have come up with Jakirovic as the answer. Not far from zero is my answer, therefore the appointment has got Acun’s dirty paw prints all over it. The new man may work out. However, our more successful appointments in recent years has been with those who have at least managed within the English game, our failures have been those who haven’t. Jakirovic is going to have to break this mould, I really hope he does. Acun is taking one last roll, it’s the equivalent of not having a shot on at Pool, Acun has just hammered it into the pack…
Yeah I get the feeling had Jakirovic not managed in Turkey this year he’d be on our radar at all. Could be beneficial for us like but TWT
We drew 3-3 with Leeds under Selles. Judging someone on one off games is daft but it seems Acun's M.O.
In the same way he wanted the same atmosphere as the 3-3 v Ipswich, when he thought Rosie wasn’t capable of this on a consistent basis, he got rid.
I understand, but people pointing to Jak getting a 3-3 draw as any sort of indication of his normal style of football is just daft when he's known as a defensive manager. Personally I have no issue with getting a defence first manager but I know plenty, including the owner, who will be. As I referenced back when Riera was linked, it seems Acun keeps saying he doesn't want a certain style of manager then goes out of his way to appoint another of that style.
I fear the issue this time around is the opposite. I have no view at all on the who the next manager is in an inevitable long line of them. But I'd be very surprised if we weren't rinse and repeat again in 12 months time. Unless we're relegated of course. Then something will have to change. Something will have to change sooner rather than later if the latest shuffle (more toss in the air and hope) of the deck doesn't work out in a couple of years even if we stay at in the championship. My concern now is how f*cked were gonna be when the plug is eventually pulled. Because the big guy for all his positive intent would rather gamble than build, and that's probably because he hasn't the money to build solid foundations.
Calm down lads, the manager is not a failure till he actually fails. Ok judge Acun on his past appointments but no one can say it’s a bad appointment till we’ve given the fella a chance. Let’s hope the transfer policy is a lot better and more efficient this time to give him half a chance.
