It would also suggest people putting 2 and 2 together from the clues leaked and coming up with 7, we may never know if he is the first choice or not, unless you're Acun himself.
I don’t know much about any of them if I’m honest - but from what I read this guy seems to have a decent record at multiple clubs, whereas Sahin feels a bit more green? Do you think Riera and Sahin would have been a better appointment?
It’s a boom or bust. I’m not going to discredit his achievements because they’re in a lesser league. He’s won titles and managed in European competition so he’s got some pedigree. His recent record in Turkey is quite impressive given the team had a transfer embargo as well. That’s a big plus given he’s going to have to find the best out of some outcasts like Omur, Giles and maybe Mehlem. Let’s also face it. No proven manager was going to touch us with a barge pole. 2 parachute teams have jobs going. More stable championship clubs have jobs going. And the pool of attractive proven managers is not vast. After Martin there’s a bit of a drop. Hopefully he’s not a nutter that’s going to criticise the fans first sign of trouble and he actually gets given a chance with players coming in nice and early. My worry is in for any manager is that you’ve probably got 12 months unless you get promoted. That’s what Acun wants.
I don’t know about better. I’ve followed Şahin’s coaching career loosely since he was at Antalyaspor and he’s very similar to Rosenior, not just tactically but in terms of communication and man management. Riera sounds very similar to Rosenior too based on what I’ve read about him. The communication and man management side of modern coaching often goes understated compared to the tactical side of it. All coach analysis articles on those tactico sites focus on style of play, build-up patterns etc. and the more interpersonal side is just a footnote. It’s so important and was one of the principal reasons Walter failed here as his novel, unorthodox style of football wasn’t that bad. I actually think the players could’ve adjusted to Walter’s style and tactics and it clicking eventually if his man management was better. The players just didn’t warm to him at all. His cold, distant, disciplinarian approach went down like a lead balloon and it was a stark contrast to the empathetic and personable approach by Rosenior. At the end of the day, we need a coach who the players can respect and get along with. If the relationship is anything like the one Walter had with the squad, we’re on a hiding to nothing. Riera and Şahin both played at the highest levels in their playing careers, they’ve got high standards for fitness and work rate but they’re approachable and are personally involved in training sessions. Despite how **** Spurs have been this season, Postecoglou never lost the dressing room. The players respect him. We need a coach the players actually respect and get along with whilst still having boundaries between coach and players. Rosenior and Sellés had that but Arveladze and Walter didn’t.
We have absolutely no idea if he’ll be brilliant, or ****e. Until the season starts, we continue to have no idea if he’s brilliant, or ****e. Best to just sit back and see what happens.
I'm very sceptical and underwhelmed, though not particularly surprised by this potential appointment. Of course, if he is appointed, I’ll support him, but I was especially intrigued by Oozkan’s comments about how he’s perceived in Turkey, particularly since, on paper at least, he appears to have done a very good job. I won’t pretend to know Turkish football well, but I’ve watched European club competitions all my life, and I’ve barely heard of them, so I’d surmise that Kayserispor aren’t a particularly notable club with high expectations. Why then would Jakirovic be unpopular after taking them from the relegation zone to mid-table safety? Naturally, comparing to the Premier League isn't right or fair, but if a manager did that at, say, Southampton, he’d be lauded, even if his style of play was a darker shade of Pulis.
I’ve seen this and I can’t help but compare it to Oleball at Manchester United. The quick one-touch football looks exciting when it’s condensed to 45 second clips for Twitter or TikTok but how does it fare across a gruelling 46-game league season? The problem with Solskjær’s football at Man Utd was that it was heavily dependent on two or three quality players on top form carrying the rest of the team through individual brilliance. Rashford and Fernandes carried that team for a while under Solskjær and eventually his luck ran out as he had no other plan or system to fall back on.
To be honest we’ve had 2/3 years of turgid boring football, especially at home. As long as it doesn’t put us in danger of been near the bottom, I’m all for it.
Massive punt. Hardly a distinguished playing or managerial career. I realise it was against Bayern Munich but still, losing 9-2 isn't a good look. As others have said, underwhelmed (and disappointed). But hopefully it turns out to be inspired. I don't see it. Massive learning curve and adjustment ahead of him. Hopefully I'm wrong...or it isn't him.
He is a good coach, but what he did in Kayseri is not a miracle, it is just half season, so it is normal he is behind other ones I count. This year in Turkey there was a huge change in coaches, many new names emerged instead same old guys rotating so as I said, he wasn't the one got more attention, since there were 4-5 clubs overachieveing.
I think a real asset the club had has been allowed to quietly leave via the back door today with David Meyler leaving. I'd have sooner seen him promoted to a managerial role then some of the names bandied about at the moment, many of who I'd bet couldn't point out Hull on the map. I'd also wager that Acun and his brain team didn't even know that David Meyler worked at Hull City. Such is the state of the club at the moment.
Also, I’ve just realised Jakirović’s contract at Kayserispor was only until 30th June 2025. I’m guessing he will run his contract down then join us, avoiding the need to pay compensation?
Fact remains he still got the results, that can't be ignored, if Sellès had done that here he'd probably be organising for the coming season. And this is from one who still thinks getting rid was far too harsh.
