It wasn't the owner it was someone working for them, the same person responsible for erecting those banners on the East Stand concourse, 'Hull City cannot be coloured in' etc. Whilst Fc have banners of them holding up trophies.
It's very much a case of personal choice Jim? I'm not a big fan,I don't need to be,just as you don't need to dislike him. I liked him to start with but now I find him egotistical and disingenuous but I'm very much 'each to their own'.Others find him the opposite, that's fine As for recruitment in terms of coach and/or players this season,I genuinely think it will be his last throw of the dice.If the figures are true in regard to the money he's allegedly putting in and we achieve little in the way of success,I can't see him hanging around for much longer. Another owner will come, then go,then another will come and go....We'll still have Hull City, which literally is what we're all in this for?
You make some fair points but also some are just as easily batted back. The money from sales could easily be classed as well spent if we retain the likes of Millar, Belloumi, Alzate, Puerta and Matazo. All big ifs at the moment but too early to say all of the money was wasted. What investment is needed in the academy? Ours is no worse than many clubs at this level, the fact is the grassroots dynamic is changing and more and more 'private academies' are popping up and playing JPL for example. Kids are coming through later and I expect the whole academy system to evolve. I've been speaking at length this week with a guy who has been in several pro club Academies in London and he thinks clubs may do away with them altogether below 15s soon because the amount of kids that last 6 months before being churned out isn't worth their hassle. They can attract the kids later on and ultimately if any of the big boys want them they will end up going there anyway. So I have no issue with Acun not pumping money into our academy right now. What infrastructure could he invest in? The situation with the council has, for a long time, held back owners from developing the area around the mkm. The training ground is a money pit and cash is spent their just keeping it up to the most basic of standards. We are no more in debt than a lot of clubs at this level. Unfortunately unless you are very successful or owned by a billionaire its likely you will be riding along with debt hoping for success or to sell players for profit. I don't buy the slating players thing. It was tongue in cheek. Steve Bruce went after Dwight Gayle recently and people would carry him back to the club on their back if he would come. Its Sport, people will upset other people. I accept some people don't think an owner should have said it, fair enough. I think I've only ever heard him say he wants exciting football. Not a specific style of play. He brought in a manager that could have delivered exciting football but then had a dodge pot making the signings for him which either fell through or were totally unsuitable. You could argue its his fault for not getting the right recruitment people in but he has addressed it now. Mistakes, plenty of them. But the devil in disguise, not a chance for me. Still deserves the backing of the fans and a chance to put it right this season.
I'm the same, despite people think I'm up his arse. He has done nothing to worry me other than being so up and down with his approach to recruitment. It seems he has now stepped back again and trusted experienced people. He has done plenty I admire but I don't care if he stays for 20 years or goes tomorrow. I pay my money l, watch the game and go home stress free regardless of the results. He is the one writing the cheques so I will let him worry about anything that requires it. Whoever the owner is doesn't bother me in the slightest.
I am not a great fan of his and in truth I expected him to be gone during this off season especially as he was talking to groups and people since last year about selling the club. Now for some reason maybe they walked away or did not want to pay maybe what he wanted he now is talking to people about investment hearing about Saudis like some mentioned it could provide him with a chance to go all out this season for promotion and being able to get what he may have asked for, or even then selling his share to the investor if he was able to bring one on board. He has made some **** choices like sacking LR and Selles and brought some right Verns in and probably played fifa 24 with the club, so when we think of what he has put into the club it is not like he has not tried even if the ultimate goal might be get promotion and sell up. But he is still here so we have to hope he gets it right and the club continues to get the support from the supporters.
You're not at all concerned that he, by his own admission has maxed out our ffp and has to make cuts to the overall budget this summer despite us only surviving because Luton capitulated on the final day then? And that's even if you don't believe the evidence that there are deeper, structural issues with the club finances.
i think the recruitment model is different this coming window. we cant sign anyone before next week, im sure many are done deals, knowing what needed addressing, the only question now is the churn, that being who goes as of next week. As for the manager recruitment, if the playing staff is being taken care of the getting the right manager is delayed having acknowledged mistakes in the past it is the right thing. As you say Jim, underneath it all I think he actually cares. Of course he'd like a profit on his investment who wouldn't.
He's 2/1 joint fav,not that it means much given the names that have been up there and no longer there all week
Others have been 1/3 and 4/9 Ric. Believe me this has not been an avalanche of money that made him 2/1.
Now i am throwing a name into the hat. Jack Davies he is a player mentor and a club leader that is who you should now be putting your money on.
How is it different? What have you seen to suggest Acun isn't going to tell whichever paid lackies are in the recruitment roles this week to build a core squad that he can add his own overpriced, underperforming 'marquee' players to on his own terms, whilst simultaneously stifling any sense of continuity through ridiculous staff turnover on the playing and coaching front? And then demanding success and wondering why it doesn't happen? I've no doubt he cares. But that should be a given for anyone who by their own admission have ploughed "£80-100m" into a venture that's still only worth the £20-30m he bought it for in the first place.
I wouldn't have thought there'd have been much money all week, there's obviously no solid information but at some point someone will hit the top of that list due to money and betting will stop.
We all have opinions... I just hope in the best possible way that statement comes back to bite you on the arse in the next couple of years./
