Well it two weeks and two days but we have a new manager. Oddly this weekend brought the end of the reign for two of the longest serving managers in the leagues. We now however have Paul Hurst in charge of the squad. He was with Grimsby for 5 seasons and has been seen as someone who played a style of football that was attractive, fluid and brought on younger players. Have we got the right man? It seems the type of manager that could sort out Town. So hopefully we see that over the next few weeks and months. Probably not the name most fans were looking for but has a decent background. My own preference was for a relatively young manager on the way up rather than a more experienced one who had managed bigger clubs and Hurst looks as if he fits that description. He has been left with a very difficult but not insurmountable task as there is two-thirds of the season left. We need to see a consistent pattern of play established and fairly rapid improvements in the fitness, discipline and defensive organisation of the team. We do have some talented players who have not been performing at their true level and lets hope Hurst can get these lads playing together as a team so we will not need too many additions in January (I for one am completely fed up with having a virtually new team every six months). One effect of a new manager coming in should be to expel some of the negativity and improve the atmosphere in the home games. It will be a hard slog for the rest of the season but it is certainly possible if we have found the right man for the job. Even if we do go down but can see enough positive signs of those improvements happening he should have the chance to complete the rebuilding process in League 2.
