I read that to Bluebaldee but no name given, thought I read somewhere yesterday he could be in the Spanish 2nd division Though Daniel Hargraves has just come up with an exclusive that our new manager could be German Michael Wimmer Wimmer is unknown in English football. his most recent position was with Austria Wien joining them in January 2023 and leaving in May this year with 1 league match to be played. He has coached at German clubs Augsberg and Stuttgart where he would have managed Clinton Mola. He was interim boss at Stuttgart in 2022 and youth coach between 2010 and 2018 at FC Nurnberg They also think he has UEFA pro licence Much more on Bristol Live article by Daniel Hargraves
"Hi, Austria Vienna fan here! He likes to start a 3-4-3/5-2-3 and is a „pressing Coach“. In Austria his tactics led to wild Games with lots of goals on both sides. After a while he started to slowly neglect the pressing, while focusing on defensive stability." https://x.com/simon19111911/status/1869743680372044118?t=TZHg6uV2ytDAXUhePPhU4g&s=19 "This worked out well at the start , but after a few weeks our attacking Players weren‘t performing, also our defense was suddenly worse than ever before which lead to his sacking in may" https://x.com/simon19111911/status/1869744405458174175?t=Cyj-CNpgo-5hOeMa0xUGKQ&s=19 "Although it didn‘t work out at the end he is still well respected by the fans because of his positive and likable Character." https://x.com/simon19111911/status/1869744823793807717?t=fa8AZ6cD068gxGh7h9TjIg&s=19
"Michael Wimmer's Austria Vienna exit was a surprise, and many fans were really on his side. There's certainly a view that he took over with the club in a tough position, and generally did very well to bring harmony back to the club, and that's paying off now!" https://x.com/OtherBundesliga/status/1869738481515409699?t=uQlkx9THu_2xaobqyX6ttA&s=19
Very interesting appointment, if true. Could be a master stroke or it could be a disaster - who knows?!!
Apparently the issue with Wimmer's work permit is that he doesn't meet the criteria to be a manager/head coach for us because he needs 2 consecutive years of experience or 3 years in total. He has only 3rd Jan 2023 to 13th May 2024 = 16 months and 10 days.
Oh well - looks like we didn’t do due diligence re work permit requirements before approaching him. That doesn’t surprise me. Onto the next one…
I reckon we will be into the first week of January before we have a new manager. I can't see many transfers coming in the transfer window as the new manager wouldn't have enough time to assess the squad and figure out what changes are needed.
I'm not trying to be all doom and gloom here but I do worry we are in an extremely bad position looking at the possibility of being back in L2 next season. I'm praying there are 4 worse teams than us but if the new manager we end up with turns out to be a disaster, we are finished in my opinion. The toxic atmosphere that will build at the Mem will ensure this.
Our new chairman / owner promised Championship football in 3 years so think how exciting the next 2 seasons are going to be or how disappointed we gas heads are going to be when we fail to get there
Hargraves on twitter... "Understand that Bristol Rovers lodged an appeal to a FA panel against a rejected work permit for Michael Wimmer but that they were unsuccessful. They are now looking at other targets."
Inigo Calderon is the new bookies favourite. Brighton U-18s manager. No idea why - he hasn’t managed a football club before.
He's foreign and that seems to be part of the thinking at this present moment. Inigo Calderon 1/3 Michael Wimmer 6 / 1, Xisco Munoz 10/1, Kevin Nolan 10 / 1 now appointed Northampton manager and Aitor Karanka 20 / 1 Calderon is the manager of Brighton U18s having played for them for 6 seasons in league 1 and the championship
It won’t be Kevin Nolan - he’s just this minute been announced as Northampton’s new manager. Ah - you’ve already mentioned that!
Daniel Hargraves says that the deal with Calderon was finalised today and will be announced tomorrow. Interesting appointment.
Looking at this guy, he has no manager experience apart from Brighton u18's so joining us while currently in a dogfight at the bottom end of L1 doesn't fill me with confidence. However... The more I read on him, the more I like. He knows the Brighton youths well obviously. They have a great system set up there with some fantastic talent and hopefully he can tap into that using his contacts there to sign players to help us out. Could see a couple of Elliott Anderson type of players, who knows! Give this a read and tell me you ain't keen on him? https://archive.is/2024.12.22-20282...c/4678963/2023/07/13/inigo-calderon-brighton/ Of course he is a risk but any manager is a risk. And if we do go down, I think he would get us back to L1 straight away with his own team. I'm actually feeling more positive now about him than most managers we've had in a long time. Just need everyone to give him a chance regardless of where we finish this season.
