This is the thing that taints Speakman for me. I get what he’s trying to do with bringing in promising young players and I prefer that to paying over the odds for journeymen on one last payday. This will not always be successful and I am prepared to accept that for now.
However, when Mowbray was sacked, there appeared to be no plan with how he was to be replaced. There should have been a replacement head coach ready to walk through the door, as that’s what Speakman has alluded to with his succession planning. It didn’t happen then and it appears it isn’t happening again.
If there isn’t a plan in place that can be acted on swiftly and successfully, Speakman should learn to keep his gob shut. I don’t hold out much hope that he can do that either
That's fired me up for another Speakman rant <laugh>

I see the logic of hiring him three and a half years ago. Brum's academy closing down offered the opportunity to get the team that developed Jude Bellingham, the footy equivalent of a Buy One Get One Free

The move from Academy Manager to Sporting Director is a huge one, and the LinkedIn talk, the bluffing and the attitude are all symptoms of KS finding that transition difficult

Each challenge he faces as Sporting Director becomes a huge drawn out affair, and each time he manages to scrape through

He will scrape through again, hopefully with this Pascal fella. Kristjaan's next challenge will be working with an independent HC that understands youth development and working in a setup like AZ

Haha almost the same words.

Mind, you will know, they ain’t a race of many words.

Whenever I introduce Ken to Brits they like ‘he’s a bit rude’ then he has a Bev and they love the lad.

Wouldn’t call him rude to his face as again, Dutch trait, the lads a ****ing unit.

Ran into him in footy training once was like running into a brick wall.

Aye mate some big old boys there, you ever been to the traing ground near the stadium?
It's were all the naughty lads that can't get into the stadium on match days go to SCARY to say the least ha

It’s a strange one surprised he hasn’t come up before now. Not in work absolutely fits the bill. Also seems to be appointment everyone can understand and get behind

Aye seems to fit like a glove mate. Could it be he’s always been in the running and the clubs played a blinder keeping it under wraps so long?

The KLD/Speakman assassination squad won’t be having that idea like <laugh>

KLD is heading up the recruitment, Speakman was relieved of that role and told to review the u21s

I doubt that, If he was first choice would've been done by now. Think he's just a very good second choice after Will Still, who is/was clearly their number 1 target

You talking Alkmaar or Rotterdam?

We went Rotterdam a few times, De Kuip one of the best football experiences of my life.

We also took in a Sparta game that was class proper bouncing the place.

Only away game we went to was a radge cup game against some 5th division side.

Have been to Ajax of course as a tourist. Great atmosphere but Feyenoord another level.

So my theory that we discounted Still in December because he didn't tick all the boxes isn't as far fetched as the rest of my ramblings?
We definitely went after him this summer though and the fact Jansen has been out of work since January isn't exactly good optics. And KLD leading the search is a bad thing.

There's positives as well as negatives, I'm trying to remain positive - part of me saying he's too good for us :emoticon-0130-devil

Yeah Jansen is good for us within the DoF model, but if KLD is running the search that is no longer the DoF/head coach model, thats the owner/manager model which Jansen is not a good fit for.

Personally I think Speakman is running the search and KLD just preferred Still. Its completely compatible and understandable for KLD to have a say in the outcome even if Speakman leads it.

I don't think there's anything credible, anywhere, which says Speakman is on the way out.

Unless, of course, KLD is only getting involved for the hiring of the coach and either Speakman carries on or a new DoF comes in after the window. I understand that this has obvious implications for the relationship between the Head Coach and the DoF, but I'd only be concerned if it transpires that KLD is telling Jansen that he's in charge of recruitment etc if he takes the job.
