From what I've seen most football players don't have an encyclopaedic knowledge of football in their own country let alone the rest of the world. I have never seen any evidence he has an inside track on anything. At all.
there have been one or two transfers for us he’s “broken” before they’ve been mentioned anywhere else. So he definitely does occasionally. The problem is he then extrapolates that out to pretend he hears everything all the time
