"and it's flexible enough to extend the ground if we suddenly pull in crowds of over 20K on a regular basis'

Bwaahhhh, can they reduce it for your 5k on a regular basis?

Whilst we may only achieve 5k the Rugby club will benefit from a larger ground capacity and improved income stream. Always better to start small and build up rather than have to reduce it when a world cup bid goes down the pan. Talking about future world cup bids not that Egland will ever secure one but if this proud nation ever did we may have a stadium with fantastic road and rail links capable of hosting a few matches how about that.

Ashton Vale will have close access to Bristol International airport,Portbury docks,Temple Meads and Parson St railway stations,Bristol bus station,M32 and M4 and Bristol City already have experience in staging England U21 matches,International Rugby matches and International music festivals and we already get average gates approaching 15000 and with a modern facility and already playing two levels above you in class our gates will be bound to increase.

What are you endeavouring to prove.?

It looks like we've got a better scheme than you. More community focused, less public opposition delivered more quickly. We could be playing in our new stadium before City!

We all had the same sentiments when we started with our quest, you don't realize all the hurdles and different hurdles people throw up,from local rivals whe are just plain jealous to frog lovers worried their jumpimg might be interfered with.

You will need planning permission from 2 councils and there are bound to be people objecting and against both developments, just like us.

Even your owm board aren't totally confident and Nick Higgs has announced a plan B,'Nick Higgs, " "We will be asking for an extension of the current planning permission on the Memorial Stadium site which will give us a back up should there be a problem in the future."

So sorry, you are no more community focused, your public opposition is still to be seen, your finance and building are not in place,it could take as long as ours, even if you do succeed and thats still remains to be seen.

Roll on a few years and we'll look back on all this as a distant memory, with Bristol back on the football map and a couple of buzzing, competing teams.

Captain Jack - Unfortunately they refute claims they support Sainsburys or have spoken to the press I took this from their blog.

    Bristol City fan in peace.

I was one of the (few) students that was interested in the UWE consultancy process around two or more years ago as they were coming up with plans for how to use the new land they have purchased. To be quite frank, when compared to most universities in the country UWE is a bit of a dump so I was quite keen to give my criticisms and suggestions for what they do with the new land. Ideally, the university would rebuild many of the departments that shouldn't have been allowed to stand for so long, namely the Computer Science department and the main building. UWE, being true to form, will likely just move the other campuses to the new land and leave everything running quite badly. Despite this, two points were raised that I had brought up.

    1) As Frenchay is being closed down, the best neurological centre in the country will also close down. I proposed that UWE bought Frenchay Hospital and the land to run it as a Medical School. This was noted in the consultancy process, but from what I gather only as an outreach idea.

    2) As UWE's sports facilities for anything other than hockey is terrible, and as students have called out for a swimming pool for the best part of a decade, team up with one of the Bristol football clubs and become the first university in the country to have a stadium. UWE can use it for its sports teams and the football team gets it on match days. Given the size of the land available and the fact that extra land can be made available expansion is possible.

I didn't think the latter point would go anywhere, but to my surprise it did. To me, it just made sense for UWE to push sports on their Frenchay campus as some of the teams are quite strong, so I'm not claiming that I came up with the idea that got you the stadium, but either way you guys get a nice new stadium and UWE gets something right for once. All I will say is that, if you guys ever fancy getting rowdy and smashing up something go for the technology building as you'll be doing the students there a favour. :)

EDIT: One other point I just remembered. The locals hate the university and all of its students, so don't be surprised if they get up in arms about your stadium. If you park near the estate near the university expect some old people to threaten to scratch your cars (happened to me once). Good luck to you guys, hopefully you'll bounce back up to League 1 and football in Bristol will only grow over the next couple of years.

I am very familiar with the piece of ground near UWE where the stadium is planned. It is not particularly close to any residential areas. With an extension to the UWE roads, access is not a problem. Car parking on site is not a problem, considering that the MOD seem to have put car parks half a mile along the raiway track running towards Bristol. Unfortunately the Google Map for the site is out of date and doesn't show all of the recent development. If you look up the internet for the UWE internal magazine of a couple of years ago when this part of their site was purchased from HP you wlll easily see the eye shaped piece of ground for the proposed stadium position. It is possible to drive to the location for a looksee.
