Now that we have signed Maxwell from Preston, does this mean DP is going to revert to the bench again? If so, he should tell the club where to stick it big time. He deserves a run in the side, and has done nothing wrong when he has played.
Phillips will revert to the bench on Saturday. Maxwell sat on the bench for Championship Club Preston. He is not coming to us to do the same.
That would be the final insult to Phillips, who would have to leave ASAP. The pity is that having a string of loanees has achieved nothing for Charlton or Dillon, and plenty for the loanees and their clubs.
Maxwell's last game for us he was sent off for bringing someone down on the touch line near the corner flag, he is a bit iffy on free kicks outside the penalty area. Can be a bit of a rush goalkeeper
We had two proven goalkeepers at this level before Jed Steer left, and now we have two again. Maxwell will be first choice without a doubt, assuming he is fit. I doubt if Dillon Phillips will ever play for Charlton again unless Maxwell is injured, suspended or falls ill. If Phillips decides he wants to leave Charlton now rather than in the summer, we may need to sign another keeper (if the Club lets Phillips go). No disrespect to Ashley Maynard-Brewer, but he probably isn't ready to play a part in a promotion campaign.
By the way, welcome to Charlton Athletic Chris By all accounts you are a terrific goalkeeper. If Lee Bowyer makes you his first choice and your efforts between the sticks helps us to return to the Championship then more power to you
The way the Club is run is a joke. We all know that. The whole 'for sale/take-over' saga is only the latest manifestation of the Madness of King Roland. If he wants to play silly buggers with CAFC for the rest of his life there's nothing anybody can do to stop him. It's up to each individual Charlton supporter to decide how to react of course. Many are boycotting and not paying him any money, and naturally almost everybody (absentee or not) is thoroughly fed up with the old fool. If a handful of apologists want to carry on embarrassing themselves, let them. The thousands of fans in the North stand at the Sunderland game told RD exactly what they think of him. But they also were right behind Lee Bowyer and the team all the way through the game. Thanks to LB we have maybe a 50/50 chance of getting back to the Championship this season. Regaining our 2nd tier status won't mean we owe RD anything - it will be 100% down to the hard work of the gaffer and his staff and players. And I would rather see Charlton in the Championship again next season - a situation which would force RD into one of three courses of action; Invest properly in the squad. Sell the Club. Do nothing and be exposed again as the most despised owner in our history as Charlton are relegated on his watch for a second time. If Charlton don't win promotion this season RD can just carry on as things are now; throwing scraps to Bowyer or his successors, while continuing to cut costs and string fans along forever with his take-over wind-ups. Seasons of failure on the pitch and the halving of attendance at the Valley has not persuaded RD that's it is better to sell the Club and go away. More decline is unlikely to change his mind at this point. So where is the harm in hoping that Lee Bowyer (against all the odds) can bring us some success? Getting Charlton back into the Championship in the state the Club is in right now would bring matters to a head once again - for better or worse - rather than see us facing years more of decline and lower league obscurity until the chronic apathy sees whole stands within the Valley closed and a real danger that the withered remains of CAFC will lose its home again. It's Championship or Bust (no pressure then Lee!) Up The Addicks!
Good to see Dillon Phillips sign a new three year contract this week. Well done Dillon All he needs now is a good run of games under his belt and we will have another asset to sell.
He has been treated very badly over the years, BUT I fear this shows a lack of ambition/confidence in his ability. There is a fair chance that he will continue to play a lack of games, but of course at this level you need financial/job security. A bit like Karlan Ahearne Grant.
My prediction for Dillon is that he will have a very decent career , certainly a Championship-level keeper in time.
Dillon Phillips was our MOM yesterday. How Jed Steer ever got to start 20 odd games ahead of Dillon is the one black mark of the Bowyer reign. Phillips is starting to look like a very promising goalkeeper - some of his shot stopping yesterday would have made Dean Kiely proud. I wonder whether DP could be the “summer black hole contingency fund money “
