If Alex Morgan was ugly I can guarantee she wouldn't be anywhere near it Henderson was always going to be picked for the front cover because Liverpool have a bigger following then City, Chelsea and Spurs. I think as Hazard was voted player of the season it should have been him. I also believe if a Man United player was short listed then clearly they would have won
In the UK there was a petition by a group of outraged Liverpool fans who were outraged that a Liverpool player hadn't been on the cover for a while. They considered that outrageous!
Suarez was due to be on the front cover of FIFA but they felt it would be more beneficial to front Vampire Rain
The shortlist was chosen (seems at random) by EA Sports. There was a different shortlist for every region. The UK had 4 - Courtois, Aguero, Henderson and believe it or not Harry Kane! No United or Arsenal players. Then everyone who plays the FIFA game was allowed to vote for their favourite. https://www.easports.com/uk/fifa/news/2015/fifa-16-cover-vote
Thanks. I knew there was the choice of four, just wondered how those four were chosen. I can understand Kane as the great English hope from this season and young player of the year, and Aguero was golden boot wasn't he? Courtois and Henderson are the more unusual choices. Would have thought Hazard as player of the year and Rooney as England captain would make more sense.
Rooney's been done to death tbf. He was on it like 3 years in a row a while back. I'd easily have had Hazard ahead of Courtois. Coutinho above Henderson?
Don't worry, I'm quite happy Rooney's ugly mug isn't on it! Coutinho is possible, but Henderson is English and was vice captain last season and was likely to be captain this season (now confirmed), so can understand going for him. That said, I would have thought it more likely to have gone for a Man U player rather than a Liverpool player given that you got top four and have the bigger fan base. Arsenal also got top four, but I would think that our fanbase is bigger than theirs.
Coutinho would have been even more bizarre than Henderson. Good player who had a few good games last season but the praise he got was way over the top. Probably because he was the stand out player in a **** Liverpool team and the media is riddled with Liverpool apologists who are stuck in the 80's.
Shteve is so militant He's Brazilian and technically better than Henderson and tbf putting Liverpool to one side he's an exciting young player. If Kane can be there... Edit: I only suggested Coutinho bcos EA Sports wanted a liverpool player and he seemed the best choice although I see Nozzer's reasoning for Henderson.
I don't think I'm militant, I'm a realist. I don't get over excited about United like some do and I'm honest about our rivals, very rarely can any of their fans pick apart any comment I make. The praise for Coutinho last season was way exaggerated but not surprising as the meeja is littered with people, both past players and fans, of a certain age who continue to promote Liverpool as a dominant force. The lad was decent but by and large ineffective.
I agree with you on all that. I say the same about the media. In fact the trend seems to be ex-United players go on to manage, ex-liverpool players go on to commentate. But if EA were hell bent on picking a Liverpool player, Coutinho would be the one for me. He does atick out in that Liverpool side but I also think if he was in a better team with quality around him he'd be rated more as well.
If that makes you feel better it's ok with me. Coutinho wouldn't get into a top 4 team which is why he slums it in Liverpool. Out of interest Skylarker, what age are you and what's your association with Lancashire? You've always talked a big game!
I think you'll find a lot of Chelsea fans would have him ahead of the likes of Oscar. He would have strolled into your midfield last year. Arsenal have about 100 AM's so that's debatable. Man City have just bought Sterling FFS - Coutinho is far better, just not English and as fast. But going on last year he would have been better than Nasri or Navas, that's for sure. The rest of the league he'd stroll into their starting 11's. Why do you need to know my age etc!?! I'll happily tell you - I'm 36. Born and bred in Liverpool. Lived just off Wavertree Road until I was in my teems, then due to something I don't want to go into, moved to London - then lived in various cities, ended up at Bath uni before moving to the South Coast. Happy? You know what I do for a living - so spookily you know a fair bit about me now What's your story Shteve? When did you move from China?
Liverpool are a selling club, their top players are courted and bought by bigger clubs. There's a reason no one's been in for Coutinho this summer. Lots of nice tricks but little end product and absolutely no desire to track back. I left god's own city in the mid 90's. I would like to move back when my work is done. It will mean jettisoning the wife but that's negotiable.
