These days, the tutting would be deafening. It's odd now looking at today's kids that are the same age as we were then. I think most of us were more running up and down just being there than actively involved, but you couldn't avoid it as everyone was fair game. God knows what our parents went through. I didn't see many asking you to sit down back then either, but they seem to reckon they were there.
I would, a dedicated owner and never wondering if we are going to be the whipping boys of the division yet again, claiming the odd big scalp and the comradeship of standing on Bunkers Hill. Players who were approachable and a game not analysed to death with useless facts on how many assists and how far they have ran what utter bol**cks. Admission prices that were not astronomical and a proper football ground with a proper atmosphere, even if the bogs were disgusting. Our own railway station and terrace banter to rival any comedy show around both then and now, now its welcome to the PL and the sterillity of the KC stadium, go back? Without a doubt in the blink of an eye. Apparently today is a must win game I thought the idea was to win every game, there's the difference at BP when we won, great, we lost, crap but no biggie you moved on to the next game no looking over your shoulder at a bottom 3 place. But, unfortunately the game itself has got too big for it's boots in general I see it at local level in kids games, parents act like they are on something if a poor kiddie makes a mistake. It's a game for goodness sake but no it's not its a business I am told bit like Tescos then, and all the worse for it.
I couldn't argue with any of that, I agree with you. When I wrote my earlier reply, it was the crowd trouble I had in mind.
I hope you have a great day shipwreck, and I hope your lad enjoys it too. Similar age to me when my dad started taking me, never did me any harm!
To be fair if I said the sky was blue on here some would argue the toss about it, so, tbh, who cares what they think?
Just shows how football in General has moved on, it is a sterile environment nowadays, don't get me wrong BP was an education every visit and that is what probably made it so exciting week in week out. It's not just football that's become sterile, all sports whether it's rugby or cricket, again could you imagine taking young kids to the threepenny stand? The fact that some see this as a must win game, well my wee lad won't understand the importance of this or any other game just yet, it's his day as far I'm concerned, and it's his innocence that will allow him to enjoy the day despite the result.........
Yeah I knew you meant that, it's still there...........but thankfully not inside the stadium, don't think I could to have The Blunt fans or Bolton lads stepping foot on our hallowed turf!!
Hope you and your lad have a great day matelot-tiger the 'wee' one will look at this game through fresh eyes and if its as wondrous as it was for me all those years ago at BP then it will be a magical time no matter what the score is. The game itself has always been bigger than a team or individual to me whether at grass roots level or PL games at the KC but even at grass roots level there seems to be no fun in the game any more, parents see to that from the touch lines. Maybe it will be the first of many games for the lad, its often a tortuous journey following Hull City but overall the good outweighs the bad, even today. Enjoy.
I was only a year older than your chap. Looking forward to taking my little one (also 2) along one day, though we live over 100 miles away so the extra car time makes it a no go for now.
Good luck, I took my 7 year old grandson to both European games at the KC and missed 2 goals, toilet duty.
I took my lad to his first game at Boothferry Park when he was two, he wanted to go home at half time. About a month later, he asked if he could come along again and that time e wanted to stay to the end. That was sixteen years ago and he now does pretty much every game home and away.
Ha, well if he wants to go, guess I'll just have to suck it up and leave, after all I just want him to enjoy it. But I'm going armed snacks and treats all in his fire Sam ruck sack!!!!
Kids start very basic speaking from about 1 year old. Most two year olds are perfectly capable of expressing the kind of things the O/P mentioned.
