Took more than one of the ****s, obviously. And my mate who threw the first punch scarpered and left me to it, so not a good night in all.

The New York Dolls & Ramones didn't think of themselves as punks when they started out. The label got thrown at them later on and it stuck. Bands that sounded Punk have been around for ages, have a look at The Sonics on Youtube as they pre-dated all of the so-called punk bands in America. The Sonics cover of Have Love Will Travel is soopoib. Even then they were just louder and faster versions of some early 60's garage surf bands.

Loads of bands only started out because of the Sex Pistols and it is disingenuous to suggest they were no the most important Punk band even if they were not the most original or best.

First punk for me = Little Richard. Mad as a box of frogs and gay as a window.

Well yeah...except that Malcom McLaren managed the Dolls before returning to the UK and nicking their ethos, which he combined with the look of Richard Hell and the Voidoids. So it's fair to say that Punk originated in New York before being transplanted to London by the ever resourceful thief of ideas, McLaren.

According to Wiki Timeline the 1st Punk Band (Protopunk) were The Sonics.

    Who am I to argue?

I don't, I'm asking what music you like so we can see if they were influenced by Bowie or the Beatles.
