Ok, but were these West Indians they copied (I'd be interested in an example of copied music btw) skinheads?
I'm the 60's they didn't copy the music. They listened to Ska and reggae. Skinheads were mods with attitude
I know. Actual skinheads making music in those days, the only example I know of is Slade and they soon changed their look but the music fitted with the late 70s skinhead/Oi! sound.
That's skinhead movement was a totally different kettle of fish though. They were punks with right wing attitude.
...but if there were no other skinheads then who were the other skinheads causing the original skinheads to not be unique?
Largely right wing, some left wing, some anarchist/nihilist, some apolitical/didn't give a ****. You can certainly hear how Slade were a big influence on the sound.
