He did also have a spell where he was used all over the place as well which doesn't help, he proved he was capable though which for me is another reason we need to keep him.

Like i said before Bri, i'm not that bothered what the club decide they want to pay him, i just think he has done enough this season to warrant a new contract.

That's fair do's mate. I'm very cautious about the lad that's all. There's a pattern emerging. If he got player of the year this season he'd have won it 3 times in contract seasons. Coincidence? Maybe, but it's enough for me to suspect, especially with his less than professional attitude off the pitch, his wages and technical ability.

Just don't want to come across as a **** with him, just want to highlight there is genuine reasoning while I feel the way I do about him. I know nobody is changing anybody's mind here or anyone expects to. <ok>:)

Bardo gives it all,,,,,

Pay Bardo his coin, and save some money on wages by getting rid of the rest of the ****e.. Of which there are many, Altidonkey, Larsson,Cuellar etc.

All about opinions mate, that's what forums are for. It's understandable for anyone to be a bit cautious with him after what he did, for me he apologised, rolled his sleeves up and got stuck in. I wish a few more of the team would take the same attitude, we might get somewhere.
As for the form issue, well, all players take a dip in form at some point, Fletcher, Johnson, was going to say Altidore but i'm not so sure he's dipped in form. I like to think that on the whole he's been a good, steady, reliable player for us since he first came, not the most gifted but certainly has balls and gets stuck in.

Of course fella. Even without everything that's happened his technique ability for the style we play would put him on the 'need to replace list' for me. He wouldn't be a priority to move on if not for his contract expiry date. if he had a couple of years left I wouldn't be looking to replacement so soon and I'd deal with the priorities. If we're to progress we will need to replace him at some point as we look to the next level, when that time comes i'd rather not have a 35k a week bench warmer. This doesn't just apply to Bardo though. There are many in the squad I'd apply that to. It's contract situations that would force my hand. Like Gards, Cuellar, Seb. But I'd like to get players like O'shea out and replaced but his contract is so he's not the priority if you see what I mean?

Yeh, see where you're coming from and that sort of worries me a bit. Wes Brown and JOS have been very instrumental in our recent resurgence, like JOS or loath him, you can't deny the pair of them work well together? Realistically they will be finished at the end of this season, we need to start looking at that as well. The alternatives we have a pretty scary to be honest.

Think brown has got a couple left in him. They play well together but I worry about the pace and JoS' composure on the ball. If I was a striker I'd close him down at pace. Got to be their last season as a partnership. Hope this new fella is decent. He passes the ball well but not seen his defensive prowess yet.

Sunderland are planning further contract talks with Jack Colback and Phil Bardsley, though the seemingly perpetually changing situation at the club doesn't appear to be helping.

The duo are part of a large contingent whose deals expire this summer, though they are the only ones who appear to be earmarked for extensions as things stand.

Speaking in The Journal, Poyet said of Colback:

We started negotiations a few weeks ago now. The situation with the negotiations has changed a little bit, because there's another person in charge now [that Roberto De Fanti has left his position of Director of Football].

Let's hope. It's important not to be too aggressive in terms of the contract because of the position we're in, and of course you need to be realistic. They'll say ‘Let's wait, let's see where we finish'. It works both ways.
Seems to be that Colback is keeping his options open a little and waiting to see how the relegation battle pans out for now. That seems fair enough really. He is at an age where is could be about to sign the key contract of his career. I'm sure he won't be short of offers.

Talks apparently haven't started yet with Bardsley - described by Poyet as 'the story of the season' - but they are apparently planned:

No, we haven't [started negotiations yet]. I think we'll try. He knows that we're going to start talking.

His story is incredible. We say to him every now and again ‘You were in the other side, over there (training with the kids)' and now he's scoring against Manchester United and being desperate to take a penalty, he's celebrating and he's the one who got the most emotional.

It has been hard for him. He had a contract here and he was earning his money but you want to be part of things, you want to be on the pitch.
You certainly wouldn't begrudge him a new deal, would you? Well, I wouldn't, anyway. I wouldn't be pushing the boat out or anything and I'd keep it fairly short-term in length, mainly because Bardsley seems to be the type who needs something to fight for in order to get the best out of himself.

It would be nice if both players are Premier League players with Sunderland next season.
