i like holloway but the more i think about it, the more i think he'd have been a poor appointment. you can't deny there is a circus that follows him and it would follow him here. it takes away from his ability as a manager. we're better off sliding under the radar again and hughton is a positive man, just like olly but without the histrionics
Wrong. He steadied the ship at both Newcastle and Birmingham. At Newcastle he won immediate promotion from the most competitive league in the world with a record points haul of 101. He then guided them to top half of the table before getting sacked for personal reasons. With Birmingham he managed the team under enormous financial constraints, particularly a transfer embargo, he also had to contend with a Europa League campaign where Birmingham acquitted themselves well. It is also easy to forget that as an assistant manager Hughton helped guide Tottenham to two fifth-placed finishes. As a manager yes, but he worked at Tottenham as assistant manager and did very well there. Also, his top flight experience was a success. You must be an Ipswich fan if you don't think this guy has proved himself better than Mackay. I did above.

To assess the value of a transfer on the transfer fee paid is crazy - how much do you think Campbell et al were earning? 'His success at every club'. Really? Hence, why he was never given the permanent manager's job at Tottenham; why following a terrible run of form - losing for games out of four - Roy Kinnear was brought into replace him at Newcastle; why he was then fired from Newcastle in his second stint in charge... His 'fantastic' record as Manager: Tottenham 1997: Played 1, Won 0 Tottenham 1998: Played 6, Won 3 (in fairness, he lost only 1) Newcastle 2008: Played 4, Won 0 (and yes a 10 year gap in anyone thinking he was a manager, even a caretaker one!) Newcastle 2009: Feb - April Played 6, Won 1 Newcastle 2009-2010 - Played 70, Won 39 (Championship and Premier) Birmingham Played 62, Won 26 That record, with experience of one season in the Premier League - he has done nothing to justify getting the Norwich job.
Really very happy with getting Hughton, think he will fit into the Norwich set up with ease and will cause very little disruption to the club. Players all seem to love him and he has done a good job wherever he has been. Quite excited for the future if this happens and fantastic the club has moved so quickly, but also gone for an excellent candidate. Amazing how many new users have been on here in the last few days with negative things to say isn't it?
Sorry if I've got this completely wrong but the goalkeeping coach mentioned in the article is he the one who's recently be appointed for England? I may just be getting names confused though.
Hughton may sign these players but Bewcastle have a director of football don't they, so while he approved those signings he didn't actually find them did he?
Interesting that he's bringing Dave Watson with him, I just hope he doesn't make a habit of breaking John Ruddy's finger!
Yep, unfortunately it seems to...Hopefully, everyone who didn't quite see the same appeal in Hughton as you and some others, will support him. I certainly will. But, I still don't understand his appeal!
injuries aside this could be great news for Ruddy, Steer and Rudd great coach with the connections to England
Thanks. Not for his finger though! But it may help get Ruddy picked for England as well as Rudd and Steer for England's future squads.
Also may give them even more reason to stay if another club came in for them (obviously I hope that doesn't happen). Must be a great attraction for any keeper to work with the England GK coach.
You obviously don't understand the value of players. If we paid someone £10m a year and they kept us in the league single handedly, they would be worth it. If you pay nothing for them and they do very little, they are not a huge loss. He won't have been on a huge wage- and it was a year long contract. Campbell was by no means a resounding success, but he was an interesting experiment. He was by no means a huge failure because they didn't pay an enormous amount to him and easily got rid of him when it was clear he wasn't worth it. You are not comparing like with like. His Newcastle records as temporary manager you can hardly count against him and it is illogical to suggest that just because no one appointed him manager, no one thought he was good enough in ten years. Maybe he chose not to? A win percentage of over 50% at Newcastle and over 40% at Birmingham speaks for itself. I'm surprised you bothered to post those stats. Don't delude yourself. Norwich are not Chelsea. We cannot expect Pep to be on our shortlist. Of the realistic candidates, Hughton was the runaway candidate in terms of proven- far more so than your ridiculous suggestion of Curbishley! I must admit, I voted for Laudrup, but his record is worse than Hughton's. I voted for him because he would be a fantastic inspiration and he did a very good job at Mallorca
