Can understand suggestions for Parker but my worry is at 31 (not long 'til 32) he hasn't got much left in the tank and I can see Sandro taking over the number 1 DM spot either this season or the next. A great leader no doubt but I'd rather someone a bit younger who'll still be around another 4/5 years as guaranteed starter.

Kaboul or Vertonghen would be my preferred candidates. Thought don't get me wrong, I certainly wouldn't begrudge Scotty taking the arm band.

This is basically my feeling on the matter too.

I still think Dawson should be nailed on to be captain if he can get into the first team. He's a great leader, he has a great attitude on the pitch, he has captained us before, he's only 28 and one of the senior heads around the squad now. It's just a big 'if' he can get into the team, Kaboul is almost certain to start you would think after a great season last year and he's got strong competition from Vertonghen with Caulker coming through the ranks as well.

Parker would also be a great choice but as other posters have said AVB may be looking to begin to phase him out of the team this season, especially with his seemingly youth-orientated approach.

Friedel may be a possibility but I'm still not sure about a keeper being captain, plus if we bring a new keeper (Lloris?) in then his place may be under threat.

Who else is there? Modric has captained us before (but only ever as a stand-in I think) so obviously he has some leadership qualities, but I can't see him still having the levels of respect from the players and management needed to be captain next time round. Not to mention the fact that it still seems more than likely that he won't be here anyway.

Vertonghen has been captain of Ajax but it might ruffle a few feathers if a newcomer is given the armband straight away I guess. Gallas is a possibility but I hope he's probably going as well. Kaboul I'm not sure about, he's becoming a great player but has he ever captained anything before? A cheeky check of Wiki hasn't shown anything, unless I'm being blind.

Parker seems most likely out of all of them for me.

I think we are all on the same lines here, Parker for me if he was a definate starter but other then that I would love to see Kaboul as captain. If nothing else just to scare the hell out of the opposing captain at the coin toss.
