I can see absolutely no negatives in this whatsoever. Most walks of life have leadership teams and have done for as long as I remember.

Rugby have been doing this sort of thing for years. The all blacks do it, the lions do it. I would bet a lot of successful sports do it, good to see footy catching on. Some of the most innovative sports coaches have spent time visiting different sports to see what can be learned.

To be fair to anyone who thinks this is a bad idea I went back to read Johnson's comments.


“We have gone with two club captains and they are tasked with driving the culture and driving the standards, particularly off the pitch.

“They are Bailey Wright, who is well versed in that role having done it for me at Bristol City, and Luke O’Nien, who we feel has real leadership potential off the pitch and we are looking to hone and develop that on the pitch.

“Lynden Gooch and Tom Flanagan also come into the communications and leadership group and what that is, is those six guys that we – from me to the sporting director – can discuss any key subjects with.”

That hardly gives any of them the right to argue with Evans on the pitch, who I don't think would accept that anyway.

Whatever the case even players who aren't a 'captain' are entitled to put their point of view on or off the pitch.
