If the banner will be chopped off on both ends would it be a good idea to have a 400 pixel blank border at both ends, or does it not work like that?

Funny how as soon as somebody wants to make a decision for the group everyone suddenly has an opinion <laugh> (not aimed at you specifically Welly)
If you want to state your case then go ahead mate <ok>

I'm off to work now. If everything is in order (images etc) and there are no strong objections then I will probably create a poll when I get home and it will be ready for everyone to vote on in the morning.

    <ok>

When it comes to artwork/banners etc, it's all a matter of taste, and there's no right or wrong...but I've kept mine simple, simple banners work, simple is effective, simple's cool...three major pieces to mine, the badge, Sir Bobby and Sir Alf, and the view of the SBR stand, timeless in blue, in fact...

Having said that, I think that both Wrighty's efforts are great, and i'd be happy for either of them to be our banner, he's probably put a whole lot more effort into it than I have too!

By the way SD, what was the prize for the winner of the vote? (I forgot to ask earlier!) <laugh>

You get to see your work at the top of the page everytime you visit, what else? <laugh>

Yep that would work fine, I'll make the change if it gets voted in

Like welly says there is no wrong or right, I wouldn't take it personally if my banner doesn't get voted in. Don't worry about any effort I've gone to, I've looked at it more as a learning experience <ok>

Wrighty, if you're into learning photoshop and practicing your skills you might like to look at this site...

    http://www.b3ta.com/

Check out the Challenges at the top, where they invite photoshopped artwork on a certain theme, all good fun, Mrs Welly occasionally submits her work on this site!

Sorry to put a fly in the ointment but are we 100% certain that the banner will be put up? Yorkie has been trying for over 18 months to get a banner sorted!

Couple of things: I don't think Mick will accept a banner with 400 blank pixels either side, it may as well be a 1000 pixel wide banner and his minimum dimensions are 1800 because on a screen like my 27" IMac, there would be huge gaping expanses of nothingness either side. Widescreen laptops even will display more than 1000 pixels wide.

Just to answer Warky's question, brb couldn't guarantee it which is why I didn't create and pursue a third attempt but I think it will probably be fine and San Diego's not going to give up the cause <applause>

San Diego has taken this on and I think it will happen, particularly given the hard work Hampy has done I'm sure SD can ride in and steal the thunder <laugh>

Plus a couple of others have updated theirs recently (millwall & Shrews) so I think there is more likelihood of ours happening if we strike quickly

It's really not about stealing the thunder. I have hassled Hampy in the past with threads and posts about the banner and I would've found it a tad hypocritical if I were not to try and do something about it now I'm a moderator. The other recent banner requests being granted has spurred me into action.

I always thought the majority of the time banners are made smaller (sometimes even only 800 pixels wide) to cater for everyone's screen resolutions, I would say it's quite rare to have banners that go 1800 pixels wide as there is only a small minority who would be able to see it!

Either way, I'm happy to add the blue gradient to the edges to bump it up to 1800 pixels wide

Does someone want to start a vote up?

Think it's because the max width of the layout is 1800 pix. I agree, we normally go up to 1200 and the image resizes if its a smaller screen, but what we don't want is Mick finding the time to upload it and sending it back. Building it up with blue is spot on <ok>
