Grappling goes both ways. Attackers and defenders are as bad as each other and it happens in every team. Its players jostling for position and while its probably not legal its impossible to determine which player is fouling who a lot of the time and with so much activity its hard to spot when it's blatant. It's part of the game and no where near as bad as deliberate handball and serial diving.

And when a player takes down another when they are clean through, it's not cheating, its part of the game. The player will be punished with a red card. They make the sacrifice. It's the same principle as Suarez handballing in the WC. He stopped a goal and was punished with a red and pen. I have no problem with what he did there and have said that before. While it might not be the best sportsmanship it's definitely not cheating.

<doh> If you are breaking the rules, it is cheating. Pulling someone down when they are gone is cheating, just as diving or a handball is. You can't call one cheating and the other a part of the game, it's the same thing! What are you even talking about?!

Some bullshit get written about this guy.

Decent footballer with a terrible attitude.

Thats all there is to Suarez. Will he be missed if he goes elsewhere? Not one bit ( bar by a small number of Liverpool fans who will reminisce for a short while, the rest will realise a good player who caused too many problems has gone ) because hes nothing special. He's no Henry, Ronaldo, Zola, Cantona amongst others.

Best player in the country? Simply not true. Top 10? Hate to admit it but probably.

Pulling someone down is a foul.

Diving in order to win a freekick is cheating.

and you guys are supposed to be football fans!

Again, tell me the difference. Both are breaking the rules. You do both intentionally to gain an advantage. Yet one is 'cheating' and the other is a 'professional foul' and 'part of the game.' They are both cheating, I don't like diving at all, but it's no worse than someone who intentionally fouls someone. They are both cheating. And just to clarify, I am talking intentional fouls, not accidental trips or mistimed tackles.

The difference, while not completely obvious is the nature of the offence. One is blatant cheating. You aim to con the ref and gain an advantage. The other is cynical but doesn't gain you any advantage. It may prevent something but you are almost certain to be punished.

Thats how I see it anyway. Feel free to have a different opinion <ok>

Fair enough, I happen to disagree, but to each their own. I see them both as just as bad, as I find it just as bad to lose/draw to someone diving as lose/draw to beating a defense, for them just to pull you down and you can't break them down again. But I do see what you're saying too.

  8. Suarez is a quality player, whether he is the best in the league is debatable though. However, anyone saying he wouldn't be missed from the Premier (ignoring antics and focusing purely on ability) is eiher biased, a wum or just plain blind!

Suarez is a great footballer who has a rather sizeable idiotic streak.
Best player in the league by a country mile, would have to disagree to be honest.
    Bale, RVP, Mata etc....
One could argue he is AMONGST the best players in the league but top by a country mile? No.

What he did was stupid, but I will say it before and I will say it again....
As soon as I saw him bite ivan I said to myself "He's ****ed" and knew instantly the FA would come down on him like a ton of bricks. I was expecting a Rio Ferdinand length ban to be honest (drugs test incident).
Can I deny there is a smidgen of racism in the PL? No. I think its there, not overtly nor a huge amount but I think it is there and has played its part in this.
Liverpool are in the unfortunate decision where any further "whining" about the treatment of Suarez will just result in them being cast in a negative light further, however much they disagree with his ban.
I think a 4-5 game ban, or 7 at most would have been fair, but considering I was expecting months I think he and Liverpool made the right decision in just accepting this and letting it die a death.

This is similar to the situation Ronaldo found himself in after "Winkgate". Great footballer, and the whole country hates him. As much as I hate the smarmy little c**t he answered his critics by becoming the second best player in the world. Suarez needs to do the same now, keep his nose clean and keep performing as he has been doing (minus the insanity).

Anyone wasting time trying to find consistency in the FA and their punishments is wasting their time. They make the rules up as they go along.
I think Suarez only has himself to blame for all this at the end of the day, hopefully he can turn it around.
One thing is for sure he got the entire world talking about the Premier League

Would a team of players surrounding the referee trying to influence his decision be cheating? I would say so.

I know one team that frequently partake in that activity and nothing gets done, but when others do the team faces a charge of not controlling their players.

  11. You talking about Chelsea or Man Utd? <laugh>

PS...we aren't short of players that argue and confront the referees. Agger, Suarez, Carragher, Johnson and Reina do it. To a lesser extent, Gerrard and Lucas too.

Gerrard is allowed to talk to question the referee, as for the others they only do it when it is them receiving the booking. I can't remember the last time I saw 6-7 Liverpool players surround the officials screaming in his face.

We're probably not as mob-handed as some, but we still do it. I thought Carra was sailing close to the wind against Chelsea.

As a neutral, I believe that Suarez was very harshly treated by the FA.

His bite was no worse than Defoes a few years back and Defoe got away with just a yellow card.

His bite was not as violent or dangerous as Thatcher on Mendes yet he gets a longer ban.

Suarez deserves a ban, no more than 3-5 games though in my opinion.

Suarez is a one of a few top drawer players in the prem league alongside RVP, Bale & Mata. If he left Liverpool then in my opinion the prem league would be poorer without him.

I'd love to see him in a Spurs shirt, even with his "ugly" side as he is a quality player.

I don't like Suarez for a variety of reasons, not least of which is that I support Norwich.I have to say though that ten games for that is outrageous.Three would have been sufficient,it's no different from a punch and probably potentially lfar ess dangerous. They are picking on Suarez, and by extension Liverpool.I do wonder if they considered that at this stage of the season up to four would make no difference to the club.If they did then that is wrong too.

That's exactly what players are doing when they foul someone and argue they don't deserve a yellow/red card for it. Often when a player takes someone out the first thing they do is lie that they were the one fouled, which just makes it a defensive dive rather than an offensive one.

The thing that really annoys me about this is the consistency and shear incompetence of the FA.

At the end of the day we have Defoe biting a player and gets a yellow purely becaue the ref has seen the incident and made a call. Suarez bites someone and due to some warped FA rule that nobody seems to have known about/understood until the Mcmanaman case, he gets 20x worse ban because the officials were not good enough to see the incident.

You have to ask why has the referee and the FA got such massively different opinion on a very similar incident? Something is clearly very wrong. Either in the FA's teachings, the referee's ability or the FA is being far too harsh on Luis.

It annoys me people saying there is no precedant, there clerely is - not that this matters with the FA as shown with the Terry/Suarez racism cases. A minor technicality and the FA act completely differently as if they are different organisations to the referee.

I don't believe this is some conspiracy towards Liverpool (although I think we have a right to feel aggrieved) but I do feel they are forcing Suarez out of England, and subjecting him to unprecedented treatment that certainly no English player would ever suffer.

It's ****ing sneaky though isn't it diving .You foul a person you know if the ref has his eyes open you should get punished.

With diving you expect to get rewarded rather than punished. Whilst I agree they are both cheating for me diving is more dishonest which is why it's hated so much.

Eh Defoe doesn't have the previous of Suarez, I'm pretty sure if Barton had done the same as Suarez he would have got a similar punishment.

If you're a serial cheat you deserve an extra punishment, he's forcing himself out of the English game.
