Naw. Seriously though, I think I posted it earlier on this thread (may have been another) the England team are continuous under achievers. Fourth in the FIFA rankings is a joke. The bit I was laughing at in your post was "they have mostly beaten teams ranked below them". Easy to do when your own ranking is inflated. The rest was having a laugh.
If the teams below them were actually supposedly better, surely it would be more difficult to beat them?
What decent teams have England actually beat recently? I'm not an England basher but when you think about it England struggle when up against a decent team. The ones that spring to mind are USA, Switzerland, France, Ghana, Montenegro. All good teams but if England are as good as the world rankings suggest then they should be beating these teams
Yes they beat Spain so it shows they are a good team, that game was also a one off though England have already beat Switzerland in this qualifying campaign anyway but the point I'm making is England have a habit of losing or drawing games they really should win. Do you not think England should be beating a team like Switzerland at home?
Yes they should but I think by winning the World Cup they showed how good they were and that Switzerland beating them was a one off, freak results happen all the time. Switzerland aren't the only team I mentioned. What about USA, Montenegro and Ghana? I'm not trying to say England are a bad team, just that they are partial to the odd bad result which if you look at recent results it's an indisputable fact. The difference between Spain and England is that Spain very rarely lose/draw games to that sort of opposition. By bringing up Spain's loss to Switzerland it doesn't make it any less true that England lose/draw games that they should win
no probs mate, but surely ALL teams are capable of the odd slip up? im not saying England are world beaters, of course not. but i could argue that if, and its a big if, we could score our penalties when required, we would have a pretty decent showing on the world stage. England, not a bad team, crap on penalties though.
Croatia, Belgium and Switzerland? Up until the last world cup, Spain had never got beyond the quarter-finals so they are borderline.
I've picked belgium, because they used to be decent, and in a couple of years, will be really good again, when their team has matured. Don't forget, they have 17 year old Romelu Lukaku as their star striker, 20 year old eden hazard etc.
If Nigel Adkins was England manager i could guarantee you that we would at least get to a semi-final/final of a major comp.Adkins is a very good manager,he can make a group of players who individually on paper aren't as strong as other players but work as team and stick together and play as a unit.
Uruguay -They're the only non-European side in the top 5. Do I get brownie points Mr. Jealous Scottish Man?
