We took our grandson to Scarborough for the day yesterday and it was actually much better than I expected. It was clean (there were litter pickers on the beach when we arrived first thing), there was no sign of any homeless types, no anti-social behaviour and less boarded up shops than Hull (they've even managed to keep their M&S). We did the big wheel, dodgems, skid cars, amusements, crazy golf (grandson insisted he got a hole in one on every hole, despite taking at least 15 shots on each and putting it down with his hand on three of them), he insisted on going body-boarding (it was ****ing freezing), had fish & chips at Catch 55, a lovely lady on the one of the fish stalls enthralled the young one explaining the difference between male and female crabs (he's now an expert apparently), went on the Tramway up to the Royal Hotel (where the missus gave him a guided tour, as she spent every Christmas there with her family growing up) and then had a wander through the town (there's some half decent shops, I was a bit surprised). All in all, it was a rather enjoyable day.
Funny isn't it how personal experiences don't always align with the narrative that certain elements of the press and media push.
Took out Spain grandkids to peasholme park in Scarborough for a day of walking, feeding the squirrels literally from your hand, a picnic and a Punch and Judy show, my youngest granddaughter would not move from it, totally absorbed and almost hypnotised lol. The peddle boats are to be avoided if you have a bad back lol
Those comments about it were not pushed by the press it was an article based on what locals say. It has problems due mainly to a large influx of people from cities who have moved there and who tend to be the ones causing the problems, though there is one particular estate there that has its own troublemakers.
Thought you would. Obviously all those photos were fake and the locals quoted in the article were lying.
Walk up Westborough in Scarborough and you’ll see thepiss heads and smack rats Every city has them unfortunately
Yes. And some are correct. Doesn’t stop others seeing or not seeing what they want. Same as the uproar in the HDM about when Hull got hammered in a poll about worst cities. All the usual comments about people who have never been to Hull etc…Unfortunately the poll was based on comments from residents of the various places not people who had just visited.
The prom / sea front is fine if you want that sort of thing. I can imagine a young family having a great day out there. Peasholm / North Bay is nice. Some great work being done by the surf school there. Yes, M&S is still there and also Next. But honestly there's next to nothing else left in town other than crap; it is an absolute **** hole in the centre. It's a town with massive social problems, but some very nice housing & parts away from the centre (particularly heading North & further inland). The way it is has gone downhill in a relatively short space of time is absolutely astounding. No agenda, just informed, unfortunate fact.
Yeah I'm not disagreeing or anything. But I do get fed up with the negativity and rage bate that's constantly pushed. If you say something enough people will believe it to be true.
I’m sorry it’s not fact There’s next to nothing else left in town? Such as What was there before? It’s a small seaside town
Scarbados cant be worse than blackpool Never found such a wretched hive of scum and villainy than blackpool
To be honest Almost all uk seaside towns are mostly ****holes Its complex But id guess a big part of it is Theres no economy there outside of maybe one month a year As well as budget airlines meant many many tourisrs travel abroad for big holidays
OK, yep, I should have added 'imho'. And that's what it is, my honest opinion. Worked there for decades, so I know and have seen it's decline and some of the deeper problems (yes, of course, it's not on it's own). It's not actually that small a town - population over 60,000 (twice as big as Beverley for example)! Or over 110,000 in Scarborough district. I also used to go occasionally on weekends as a good shopping venue. Had a nice feel to it, with a good range of shops as a good option for a shorter day than say York. It's sad that it's pretty much all gone now; as said, there's only really M&S and Next of note left in the centre. The Brunswick was thriving, it's now depressing and not worth going in (other than to park maybe). The previous nice feel of the town centre has gone - no, I best not expand further. All the locals I knew ended up avoiding the centre like the plague. That's not to say that good pubs and the odd cafe for example can't be found, of course they can. Each to their own, but I can't see how anyone can sensibly deny the rapid, stark decline of the town centre or pretend it's ok. As said, the North Bay area is still nice, and the sea front is what it is.
Same everywhere with nightclubs always makes me laugh Bird at work went to see blondie at Scarborough Ohh we stayed at the grand what a **** hole!! It’s not compulsory fat Brenda I suggested the crown spa hotel! I’m not paying that!!! So you get what you pay for and most of the people I know never comment on what a shame cos if it was done up it would be amazing some of the architecture in the main bits are fantastic same as station hotel in hull Fantastic art deco Britannia buy them up cos no one else wants them
The Grand in Scarborough is having a massive expensive refurb, courtesy of the taxpayer. Royal Station Hotel in Hull will also get one when certain contracts run out. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
I’m sorry I just don’t recognise what you’re describing there, as posters know I go there on a regular basis My mate is a proud scarborian and he wouldn’t either And the Ming mongs are local I’m sorry to say Yes Brunswick is empty. Just like prinny quay is online shopping killed them
