The government's just announced they're giving £75k each to the 555 sub-postmasters who brought the group action and bringing in legislation to quash all their convictions.
Back on the Post Office thing, I may have missed something but, is the Horizon system still in use, is it still showing discrepancies, or did the problem just 'go away'?
The ****ers should try something novel such as delivering m BBC News have just said they're still using it, and have just signed a new contract to 2025.
I’m a bit late to this discussion, but once you’ve watched the drama I’d highly recommend the documentary that accompanied it. I thought the serial made me angry, but there’s a bit of a filter with knowing it’s a drama that disappears when it’s obviously real people talking. I was absolutely furious by the time it finished - seeing the poor woman whose deteriorating mental health was made clear in the drama was heartbreaking.
Janet Skinner from Hull has been quite prominent on the TV today, she was wrongfully jailed, which Hull post office did she have?
Not followed it today, so don’t know what final compensation might be, but they should ****ing get on with it
£600,000 is the figure being mentioned. Of course with it being Government owned and run by a quango it is taxpayers money whilst those responsible pay nothing and walk into other lucrative jobs in the pubsec.
Should be recovered from Fujitsu. No idea on post office shareholders (are there any?) but if so they should be on the hook for no dividends too. As usual it looks like the public pick up the tab when things go badly, and shareholders do well when things go well.
Kind of wondering when Fujitsu step up to the plate here. Silence is deafening. Was the system at fault or was someone in the company dipping there hand in?
No idea but if the PO or Govt aren’t busy trying to sue them there’s something seriously ****ed up (well something else!)
The PostOffice is government owned so there are no shareholders. The public always pick up the tab for things in these cases.
Interesting - The architect of the faulty Horizon IT system, who gave evidence used to convict sub-postmasters, has demanded immunity before agreeing to appear at the public inquiry. Gareth Jenkins, who is understood to have been instrumental in developing the software as a senior computer engineer at Fujitsu, is under police investigation over his role in the Post Office scandal. please log in to view this image Looking For A Better NBN Deal? Ad Finder His testimony given in court cases that the Fujitsu IT system was working correctly was central to convictions and repeatedly used by Post Office lawyers. Tracked down by The Telegraph to his home in Berkshire, Mr Jenkins, 69, said, when asked if he was sorry for what had happened: “I don’t want to talk. I don’t have anything to say to you.” Cannot be used against him Mr Jenkins has twice sought a guarantee that any testimony he gives to the inquiry cannot be used against him in any possible prosecution and his testimony has also been delayed twice. On Tuesday, Paula Vennells, the former Post Office chief executive who presided over the scandal, said she was handing back her CBE and she was “truly sorry for the devastation” wreaked on sub-postmasters wrongly prosecuted and convicted. It also emerged that in 2017 she was considered for the role of Bishop of London. please log in to view this image Claim 250 Free Spins Ad Gambino Slots Mrs Vennells said in a statement: “I have so far maintained my silence as I considered it inappropriate to comment publicly while the inquiry remains ongoing and before I have provided my oral evidence. “I am, however, aware of the calls from sub-postmasters and others to return my CBE. I have listened and I confirm that I return my CBE with immediate effect.” Adam Crozier, the CEO of Royal Mail between 2003 and 2010 when it owned the Post Office, also issued a statement saying he felt “deeply sorry for those whose lives were ruined by what happened” but denied any involvement.
Just watched the remaining two episodes of the post office saga, I actually had tears in my eyes at some points. Loved it when Jo said “ look at us, do we look like criminals “ the pure lack of morales and basic humanity virtually hits you in the face when you hear some of the things the post office did to cover their tracks. If there is actual justice in this country some of those bastards will be put on trial and convicted. On another note I would love to meet Mr Bates.
As is normal with these major computer systems (apparently), the supplier is not liable for any losses incurred as a result of the client’s use of the system. They could be held liable for costs incurred as a result of perjury, or any criminal acts, but I don’t think they were directly involved in many of the court cases.
