Must watch The Devil’s Confession: The Lost Eichmann Tapes 9pm, BBC Two A chilling, fascinating series exploring the prosecution of the logistical architect of the “final solution”. Adolf Eichmann fled to Argentina after the second world war and in 1957 he spoke, on tape, to fellow fugitive Willem Sassen about his part in the Holocaust. Gideon Hausner’s determination to obtain these recordings led to Eichmann’s conviction.
Just watched the Boiling Point short film and the first episode of the series. Struth, I need a lie down! Stephen Graham is brilliant in the film. I did go to a very upmarket restaurant once and I got a glimpse into the kitchens. It absolutely wasn't chaos, just people working at their stations, quietly, as if they were doing experiments in a lab. I wonder if the extreme prices they charged paid for extra staff so it works better?
I just finished watching Gracepoint on Freevee, it's the US remake of Broadchurch. It's a ten part drama, following a fairly unpleasant detective with a life-threatening heart condition, as he investigates the murder of a twelve year old boy in a small coastal town north of San Francisco. Though it's a US remake, the lead role of the detective is played by David Tennant, whose American accent is a little hit and miss. Overall, it's quite watchable, though I never saw Broadchurch, so I've no idea how it compares. I also watched The Reckoning and thought it was okay, Coogan is pretty good at playing Saville, though he could have done with a better wig and it portrayed Saville as a very panicky in parts (occasionally coming across a little Partridge) and I'm not sure he was actually like that, I think he was confident that he was untouchable. I've also seen the first two parts of Boiling Point and I watched the film previously. It's a little daft, in that the amount of non-stop disasters are rather unbelievable, but it's very well acted and very intense and is very much worth a watch.
Just finished watching the Alienist on Netflix, I thought the first series was excellent and the 2nd one also okay, but preferred the first one.
Just got back from watching Killers of the Flower Moon. Wonderful film, worth 210 mins of anyone’s time.
Halfway through watching Bodies on Netflix, a rather strange concept but watchable. The best thing is seeing quite a lot of Hull which was shot there.
Watching Life On Our Planet narrated by the excellent Morgan Freeman, eight episodes in total on Netflix.
Have now watched more episodes, and my initial hope of it being a detective story from beginning to end, has turned into a time travel type thing, which, if I had realised that in the beginning, I would have given it a wide berth, as this type of thing is not my cup of tea at all. On the plus side, seeing numerous shots of Wilberforce House was nice.
Killers of the flower moon is great But i think cinemas need to add a 10min halftime break for films over 3 hours Its a long time to not check not606..
Not Netflix but Sky arts (freeview channel 11) from 8.00pm tonight various rolling stones documentarys. Followed at 00.45am by the who live at Kilburn 1977
Didn’t he get the part of Red in the Shawshank Redemption because of his voice? The character in the book was a red headed Irishman, I believe.
Covid inquiry best comedy I’ve seen in years absolutely hilarious if it wasn’t such a ****ing disgrace
If you like foreign language films “ Nothing to Hide”. French Netflix movie. Middle age couples go to a dinner party. Someone suggests they all leave their mobiles on the table. Rule is you have to answer or read out text, e mails, calls in front of everyone else. Funny, sad and thought provoking.
I did watch it to the end, it got even more stupid, whoever wrote it must have been on something strong at the time.
