And on that note, I'm off to bed, as I have an early start in the morning. BTW - excellent post 1950!!!
Which is why I find the whole thing depressing. Sorry if that upsets some, but I'm still not the slightest bit impressed with any of the names put forward and the divisiveness will set in again regardless of who is appointed. Your suggestions might be tongue and cheek, KIO, but there are those seriously suggesting that we sign Warnock, ffs!
What exactly is a winning mentality, and how have you been able to so precisely identify it in this particular person? Presumably you are also able to identify professional sportsmen who have a losing mentality?
My point is, you know absolutely nothing about his style of play, approach, personality. You've just quickly checked him out on Wiki. You basically no next to nothing about his career whereas I've followed his path for a few years. Back to City, we are now in a far weaker position than we were in the summer. For starters, managers prefer to have the summer months to work with a squad. Now whoever comes in will have a 10 point deficit, a morale-sapped team and huge squad to sift through. We really did cock up massively by giving the gig to Adams but it's over now - we are where we are - and we have to either make a clever short term appointment or take a long term vision and go for someone like Robinson. Quite why anyone would suggest they'd be underwhelmed with him when they weren't with Adams is beyond a joke. Barking mad some people.
Robinson reminds me of Burley when he was at Ipswich. Great football side, excellent young players coming through. Bright young manager playing progressive football. But he is tied very firmly to MK Dons and would want to bring his raft of staff with him, no doubt at all. It would cost a bomb and I think it completely rules him out. As for Sherwood, it certainly wouldn't be dull but as mentioned above, just ask Spurs fans. His win ratio was good but they weren't impressed
We're not a well-off Premier League club any longer, and we're further from promotion than when the season started, this is the most difficult managerial appointment since Lambert. If any of the names excited us all then WBA, Palace, etc would have snapped them up. I suggested Warnock as a very short term fix, as no matter how awful a person, or how bad his football is, I think he represents our best chance of promotion this season. If he failed to get us into the playoffs then I'd have no problem us ditching him in the summer for a manager capable of building us up over several seasons. For me though we'd be foolish to squander this squad on someone who would need time to settle, our squad will only get weaker if we fail to achieve promotion.
Not sure why you've picked up in that particular phrase in my post but fair enough, I'll explain what in In a football manager, I would say it's someone who doesn't accept half measures. Someone who the players know, that if they don't follow instructions to the letter or produce on a Saturday they'll have questions to answer. Don't know how long he's got on his contract, but we aren't broke yet. Saved some money with Adams resigning too. He turned down Brighton, if they could afford the compensation then surely we could?
Robinson probably got the biggest budget in L1 so should be doing well Would sooner have Grayson or Adkins
Fair point about Brighton. Though the fact he turned them down might be because of the compensation and failure to bring backroom! It's all guess work. I'd happily take their whole youth department - extremely good coaches there
Eddie Howe has got a few million to spend as well so don't be fooled by the Little Old Bournemouth routine! Backed by wealthy Russians.
I'm not sure anybody is 'fooled'. Everyone knows Bournemouth have big money backers. Not that it's relevant to this discussion
All the media are having a good old collective **** over Howe and the amazing job he is doing there! Perhaps with all your millions you might be able to tempt him over to Norfolk!
I agree with you Supers and he's such a moanie little Cnut as well when things don't go for him! The sort of bloke I would like to beat the crap out of!
