And Hughton's Newcastle scored a record number of goals. If a manager took the same approach at every club he was in charge of, it'd be very naïve.
It's like the planets aligned under Lambert. We had a bastard on the pitch, a bastard in the dugout and a bastard running the whole show. That's what we're missing now. Not enough bastards who'll get in your face and make things happen.
Hard to see a new manager keeping Phelan on, though I guess someone who has worked with him previously might be willing to. So it might be that it boils down to a choice between Phelan - cheap and in situ - and A N Other who is likely to be more expensive given that it would probably include the cost of getting rid of Phelan.
Mick Dennis seems to think that the new man will be in place before he weekend ! http://norwichcity.myfootballwriter...itu-before-saturdays-trip-to-the-south-coast/
As others have said, fair play to NA for realising he wasn't up to it. No shame in that. Karl Robinson for me. Mentioned his name earlier in the season. Ok he hasn't won anything, but consistently getting McDons in the play-offs on their budget is no mean feat. He's sevred his apprenticeship. Right time in his career to make the trip up.
Had to laugh at Steve's response, you have to wonder why the pillocks bother reading an article about Norwich, they're never going to bre happy with what they read!
He's somewhere in the Middle East, would no doubt be expensive to get. Not to mention the fact he's fallen out with pretty much everyone he's ever worked with and our players wouldn't fit with his philosophy.
Ok, so what is our footballing philosophy? Last time I looked we didn't have one. I think that is what is missing. Due to the rapid rise through the leagues we never really had one. It was based on counter attacking football before Adams and Hughton. But that's not really a philosophy its a tactic. To move forward as a club I think we need a manager who can implement one. That's where we went wrong with Adams and maybe where we could be going wrong with Phelan. Great coaches but maybe not managers.
I agree. I'm just saying that to basically play the quick passing, quick moving game Laudrup would look to play would require us to alter our squad we don't have time for that. I would love to see us play silky tiki-taka but you have to develop to it. When we got promoted under Lambert it was using the fairly simple principle that we got the ball to the wing, into the box and to grant holt. It was simple effective and very hard to defend against. We need that sort of system, something basic that we can be very organised around.
