That's a bit like writing off George Burley 15 years ago, isn't it? He has a winning mentality. He might not have 'got across the line' but a winning mentality means he is worthy of being discussed as a possible, no? It's not about his record that he's highly rated - its his methods. In fact, Burley is arguably the best comparison I could make.
To be fair, McNally IS part of the problem here. He doesn't want another Lambert because he didn't like having his authority challenged. That 'might' hold us back. It is my opinion we need a 'bastard' in charge to kick some of these players up the backside. I fear McNally won't appoint one.
Rosler took over Wigsn in similar circumstances last season and did excellently, I think he would be a great fit. regardless of the appointment I'd be disappointed to see Phelan leave as he is a top class coach.
I never publicly complained about Adams whilst he was manager, I had no intention of undermining him when he was still in charge. Relieved that he's gone though, there was only one way this club was heading. A terrible, short-sighted appointment by the board. Here's hoping we get it right next time. Pretty fed up with people who say we shouldn't complain without being able to come up with someone better. Why the hell should we? Someone is paid hundreds of thousands of pounds to do that. Let's see them earn it.
Looking? No, no, we scour. As in leaving no stone unturned. Some of those names are terrifying, although plenty there have no chance and are just making up the numbers. Nolberto Solano made me smile - I say that, I've no idea what he's up to to know if that's as amusing or ridiculous as I found it. 'd be surprised if anyone other than MP, but we can hope. Rosler not a bad shout - also MMs continuing Wigan troubles lead me to think it might not have all been about him this season. Karl Robinson maybe but I don't think the timing would be right there. I'd want him in from the start of the season I think. I'd hate for him to not get promotion and leave before getting a proper crack. We need someone who has been here before, to really go for it. Howe but I couldn't for a second see him leaving Bournemouth when he's gone so far with them. If Colin weren't so divisive he'd be my choice - I realise that's a dirty word around these parts, and of course it not a given he could get promotion, but given that we've missed the boat on Pulis and Lennon, there are plenty worse out there. I know he's a creepy looking fellow, but what about McDermott?
I didn't understand the point 1950 was making. I must have seen 8 names mentioned. They might not be everyones cup of tea but I think all would do better with our current group of players. Nobody we appoint will please everyone anyway. But appointing someone who pleases more than a handful would be a better start than our summer recruit.
Well Supers you mostly do talk a lot of sense IMO and for me this time you're really 'hit the mail on the head!!!' I listened to some of the Canary Call special and Rob was of the same opinion (Thank goodness Paul McVeigh wasn't available to do it!!) I wonder how long we'll have to wait for 'white smoke' coming out of Carrow Road and my only hope is that he will motivate the team, who will motivate the fans. If the style of football that we've had to endure at CR (Millwall and Huddersfield excepted) had gone on for much longer, there would have been at least one happy fan on the waiting list for a season ticket, as I wouldn't have renewed mine!!!!
The Daily Star (for what its worth) reckon that there was a meeting after the Preston game about the result, but it ended with a handshake. Adams' role when he returns has not been defined apparently, but may not be with the academy.
I bet you end up with Phelan it's pretty much nailed on for him otherwise he will walk and the severance package will cost a few quid plus the added expense of hiring a new manager with all his assorted back up staff. Looking at it logically surely your board wouldn't have been stupid enough to bring in Phelan only to dispense with him a short while later. But then again they did appoint Adams in the first place!
My real fear this year was that we did get promoted with our set up, the PL with Adams would have been a bloodbath. The reality is here is with our squad we need some decent managerial experience and a back to basics approach, this should be enough to push us into the playoffs. Adams was an experiment the whole concept seemed to be everything or bust, now we need a bit more structure and to play a bit more sensibly.
And, cynical as it may sound, this is why i suggested the decision has been made now. Season ticket renewals are fast approaching and I know plenty of people who were seriously suggesting they were having doubts over renewing because the football was so dire to watch. It was boring last season but at least our opponents were decent! Not got that excuse this time around.
This is why we are all suggesting that logically, Phelan will get the job. But if Charlie Wyatt is right (and he often is about Norwich) then perhaps its not that clear cut. How long is Phelan's contract?
As I said the other day, "it's time to start playing grown-up football". Well, I thought it was accurate anyway! I imagine Adams had shouted 'STOP BUNCHING' at least once in training
It would seem bizarre if Phelan did go as he's only been with you a few months, hardly time time to get his track suit dirty!
A friend of mine who is a villa fan said there were a few boos at the game at the weekend.... Just putting it out there
