You are spot on of course there Dai, but some seem to think we are wanting to change things back, which is not the case, Hoopster was merely pointing out what was correct, but it clearly has gone over the great majority of heads! Dilli is annoyed because QPR are involved................
Swords, you are forgetting one thing though. Down here we call it " Pel Droid" which translates from Welsh as Football
No one is disputing what the game is called now Dilli!!.... But facts are facts as Dai would say, and the historical facts are that our great game was first called Soccer, and that is it's rightful name, and was used for some 18 years before football was ever thought of as an alternative to soccer, hope you can digest this, as these are the undeniable truths relating to this debate! So stop whinging.....................
Phil, I can't agree especially with Dai it's in my DNA. Welsh is my 1st language and I don't give a monkeys what the English call it. Pel Droid = Football and seeing as Welsh is an older language than English (oldest in Europe) that takes precedent. I don't like Americanisms at all. The stupid fat fcukers say two times instead of twice, can't spell socks or harbour properly and have no idea what goes in in the rest of the world so they can stick their soccer up their asses Miserable twat aren't I ?
Ps Phil, I know where FFS sits so I will know tomorrow who you are but you won't know me I'm gonna report on here tomorrow wether you're a handsome bugger or an ugly sod FFS, as you know looks like Martin Jol on steroids
soccer is the true name that has always been and always will be but everyone is welcome to call it football like i do myself but i know that football belongs to rugby...It don't matter really does it as long as you know the true name when it was invented...
When William Webb Ellis picked the ball up they called it Rugby Football. We have to remember that what he picked up was a football not a soccer ball.
Anyone who knows anything about the game will know its true name is soccer, I call it football now because that is the name it is referred too in this country now but it was never called that years ago as the term football meant other type of sports.....Ask your grandfathers if you have one to what would they do on a saturday as there was no sunday games ever in their day and they would say soccer. I tell my kids im going to the footie than soccer or football but they know what i mean....
I too am a 1st language Welsh speaker Dilli, and I'm 'pretty' sure that you have spelt 'Droid' wrong there
Valley, fckn spell checker thing on this blinking iPhone I put in droed, it came up as dried, respelt it and bloody droid came up
Welsh is spoken in my house too, both my lads are bilingual, both have come through the welsh medium Ysgol Gyfun Gwyr, but don't tell Dilli! Valley keep him on his toes aye...........
Phil, I applaud you for that, sending your kids to a Welsh school, no need to worry about telling me that
Dilli, I agree with you there mate. Even though my nieces and nephews are all yanks! We're getting a tad sidetracked here I think lads. The fact is, it is both football and soccer. There are many different codes of football and our particular one is called soccer. So technically when you say football, you are still right. I just object to when they say on the radio or TV "from Rugby over to football now". Rugby IS football too! In that instance it should be "from Rugby over to Soccer now". Jesus, I really have a lot to be bothering me on a Christmas eve!!! BTW, I didn't think Welsh was spoken is south Wales? I thought it was all up North? Here in Ireland, there are only wee pockets along the west coast that speak Irish. I don't know what the case is in Scotland. I expect they speak a bit of Gallic way up in the highlands but not much anywhere else.
