They probably train as they play in regard to tactics and set up but obviously there is no opposition to put pressure on you so you aren’t so aware of the dangers and limitations.
For what it is worth my take is as follows The squad isn't threadbare at all. However, TC was correct in what he needed in January, and not getting it. We have probably the nearly the best midfield in the league. The defence has been ok , but prone to lapses . The head coach has done a good job. We acutely miss a reliable striker, and I do think we should have kept Rajovic. his goal scoring knack would have converted any number of 1 goal losses to draws and a few draws to wins. We have been unlucky with the injury to Baah in particular. we need 3 good players in the close season. Striker, central defender defensive midfielder. Maybe, just maybe, a mentor for TC - as Aidy had - would make his jobe a bot less stressful. What we DONT need i s the load of miseries who write into the wobby when we lose, seem to know it all ,and yet as far as I can tell, none of them could or ever have coached 9 year olds. Unfortunately, like the poor, thay are always with us.
Theres a Player called Mo Salah, seems unsettled, rumoured admirer of Pozzo & Duxbury (yes he's the ONE) & thinks Tom handles things Cleverl(e)y. Swap with Bayo ?
Being a miseryguts is just one aspect of the human condition - one that appears to have inflicted many Watford 'fans'. It's so serious in some that occasional success makes them even bigger miseryguts - miserable because they enjoy being miserable but have nothing to be miserable about. And they do seem to infest the Wobbly - as well as certain Fan pages on Facebook/Twitter. I learnt ages ago to not challenge them - there's more chance of getting a fossil to change its mind.
They just seem to hate the way football is played . Ok that is fine and sure can be a frustration but best thing to do is not watch it or understand it’s just the way many teams set up . Like a lot in football things have changed a lot since even 20-15 years ago style wise . Or hope for an old school coach who isn’t so into the modern way of playing which a lot young managers use. But that means getting rid of a man who was being described as the one and next GT - getting his name chanted at matches not so long ago. Now it’s Cleverley has been lucky and doesn’t really have a plan . I guess football fans are as fickle as anyone in football.
This is one major disadvantage of Social Media and "comments" on newspaper articles which I read with some amusement. It's only a game and it's a first world problem as they say.
Some of our fans : January /February : “ How dare the Pozzos think about sacking Our Tom” - he is the old and future of the club “ March/April : “Get Cleverley out “ - he is clueless and too negative “ And people call the Pozzos knee jerk ? Fair enough if there are people out there who never have got Cleverley and the hype around him although not sure who else we’d get instead .
OK, no doubt they'd both take a 'Pozzo Salary' (cut ) for the Honour of wearing whatever shirt WFC change to next season. Not TOO many Olds could be more interesting fhough
I don't think they have much more than a point since he went there and not sure Ismael was really that popular here either. Seemed to have the same fingers pointed at him - slow and negative football with predicable line ups.
He was sacked and replaced by Tom, what Tom and Watford need is an experienced and successful older head to try and persuade him that tactics have to be adjusted to suite players you have rather than blind dedication to one system that is not really working, that's the downfall of Rob Edwards here and ultimately at Luton
Despite achieving much more than the expected relegation I would be surprised if TC is with us next season.
And would it make a difference? https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/25118742.watfords-season-comes-12th-place-play-off/
I dont know...... but we are pedalling backwards currently. Down to the Pozzos really......are they prepared to invest more in the club......??? Besides that I cant see anything that TC had added tactically.....
Well we seem to have the same problem every season. Start well then have a bad second half. Everyone wants a complete overhaul of the squad which doesn't really happen with patchy recruitment And the cycle goes on. The squad depth is poor and we have had too many injuries or players banned but also Cleverley has to take some responsibility for the tactics and style of football played.
You sum it up well Mark. As for TC, would anyone do better? We have had a lot of managers over the last few years, many with credible experience, and all got their P45's pretty quickly, TC managed a whole season!
Just what has happened to the famed scouting system? Have the Pozzos cut back on it to save money, as the current squads in both Italy and Watford are pretty mediocre. We know there is a problem with work visas in the UK, but not Italy. It is like both clubs have decided to sort the finances while accepting mtd-table ends to the seasons.
