Let the Russians have this mess and pull back into Turkey. Whilst they are knocking out Assad's enemies IS will gain more ground and suck the Russians into another war they cannot win just like Afghanistan. When the Russians and Assad are gone then let the Arab League take on IS.

That part of the world ain't worth fighting over.

Nice logical view - too much common sense for NATO and the Western powers though - I hope theres not going to a Sunderland size mess.

We can't just walk away Nostalgic. Its right on our doorstep. Look what happened in Turkey yesterday. Its so complex and there are so many 'sides', we couldn't walk away even if we wanted to.

God knows how this is all going to end. Or when its ever going to end. There's still a long way to go.

They seem to change alliances at a whim. I don`t know how they keep track of who`s on which side.

    "I just shot 2 Hezbollah"
"Daft bugger, they`re on our side"
    "No they`re not"
    "Aren`t they?"
    "No, that was last week"
    "Well. nee ****er telt me"

Maybe half the time they don`t know either.

Absolutely. A thoroughly bad do that.

Our lads are hamstrung by rules while they don`t have any. They see that as a weakness to be ruthlessly exploited and we help them do it.

The powers that be need a bloody good shake up.

The original intention of containing IS has been wrecked by Russia. Not walking away, just letting the Russians run themselves into the ground whilst NATO protects an ally and regroups. There is not one expert in the world who can second guess this situation and since the Russians have prioritised Assad's opponents just arm the Arabs and leave them to finish each other off. IS can then turn eastward into Iraq and Iran as they do not seem to care if an Islamist is Sunni or Sh'ite. At least that will test the resolve of those countries in allying with Russia
