The reason for Englands lack of success is probably a difference in quality. The top premier league teams are littered with foreign stars, most of them making average English players look considerably better than they are. This becomes apparent when England play international matches. Furthermore it doesn't really matter who the manager is , nor his nationality. Football can be a strange game at times resultwise, but success can only be achieved by ability.

No it is the management that are crap
Glenn Hoddle had all the skills of any Italian or German mid-field magic man but a line of England managers tried him and decided he was not for them oh how he would be what we are looking for now
Earlier England managers apart from Terry V wanted the ball played early young apprentices were coached to play the ball early and British crowds wanted pen box excitement minus the patient build build up
We have a tough five years ahead to reverse all that

english players in the premier are playing with top foreign players who have great movement and awareness of position, thus making it easier for our players to look good. comes international time, playing with their own compatriots without these abilities, they are much less effective than for their clubs so england are cr*p.

Joe Mercer, Sir Alf and Terry V produced teams of English players across differing generations who played the passing game with no little success, for as long as the premier league has managers who see their job as EPL retention only we will struggle
Harry R produced a team described by the majority of EPL managers as the most attractive in the EPL with plenty of English players involved

We need a brave manager
