Glad it wasn't just me then, I thought it would be Indian or nothing. I was expecting a hammering for my preference.
Korma in restaurants is (generally) crap. Korma done right is hot and tasty. To quote from The Curry Bible
Despite the user name, I live in England. Moved back about 12 years ago. To answer your question, Indian restaurants in the USA turn down the heat element compared to restaurants here. Because there isn't the same relationship with India as there is in the UK, good restaurants are few and far between. In areas like Silicon Valley where there is a concentration of people from the subcontinent you can get a half way decent curry.
Went there for lunch once. The one on Marina. It was a set menu and it was all fancy little bites but no pickle tray, no massive naan, and it was a subtle tasting curry in a tiny little dish rather than a big ****off tasty one. But then I'm always a bit like that with what is in my opinion overly fancy food.
There's one down Bev Road that's really good, can't for the life of me remember the name though. Slightly off topic, but I noticed the other day that Wokkas was some Vietnamese place now. Went in and had a Seafood and Tofu Banh Mi (it's a vietnamese sandwich/baguette), absolutely ****ing beautiful. Definitely gonna be popping in as often as I can.
Fanny food. That was my fear. Portions have to be generous, no pickle tray? ****, that's like Sunday roast with no meat. Ambiente around the corner is the same 'Tapas'. Left feeling hungry.
I know on face value it sounds appalling, but it's well nice. It has a ****ton of different stuff in it as well as a bit of chilli and sweet and sour sauce. They do offer other types of meat in case you're truly worried. It isn't just a sandwich place, it is a proper restaurant like Wokkas was. Also, hang on - what about fish finger sandwiches?
Not really a fan of Indian food, rather bacon & eggs, fish & chips, Sunday roast or even Chinese, however the people at our place swear by this place https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Resta...on_Hull_East_Riding_of_Yorkshire_England.html I went once on their recommendation but haven't been back, it's just not my bag
I love the taste and smell of Indian curry but I find it a bit hard to digest, I have to eat it at lunchtime these days if I want to get any sleep at night. I prefer Thai curry to Chinese though.
Good call Plummy, the food of my youth and my guilty secret of an 'older age'...... I was with you right up until the tommy sauce anarl
I'm just not into seafood. Fish and Chips is about all I can manage. My policy - if it swims, don't eat it!
