Ever notice that the best N Ireland players have been the fenians <diva>

Are you saying he was not a good player because he done **** all with N.Ireland?

As for YOUR Gerry & Marty, what have they got to do with any of this?

A thread with Medro arguing about Irish issues.

If only we had more of this sort of thing on General Chat.

We're crying out for it.

Back to the OP, the players must know that most fans would prefer them to sing along. Especially those in the stadium. It wouldn't hurt them to sing a short song for the fans' sake would it.

Which other nation has a song as a National Anthem which is about the head of state and not the nation itself?

None that I can think of.

It's a ****ing awful dirge, typical of the forelock tugging sycophancy which the Royals and their ilk take as a given. I would not sing it under threat of death.

It is not only a gross insult to every true Scot but to any Briton with any self respect.

I'm not insulted by it Dev, and I reckon I have self-respect.

Was Cromwell not responsible for executing a King and attempting to end the divine right of royal heirs?

Strange that his name should come up in a debate about the National Anthem unless Chunky detests the Monarchy.

That must be it.

Regardless of the song's content, which I disagree with as both an atheist and a republican, it's just a **** tune.
It's boring and dull.
Odd really, for a country that's known for producing so much influential music.

I'd go with The Trooper by Iron Maiden.

I prefer the clansman

Presumably the live version, so you don't have Blaze Bailey singing it.

If you'd like to have a bunch of Englishmen performing the Scottish National anthem, then that's up to you... <whistle>

Yeah Rio.

Haha you have me there, although theres currently a bunch of Englishmen playing for the Scottish National team ... does Bruce Dickinson have a scottish granny?
