On the one hand I would say that it surely didn't need that 45 minutes for such a conclusion to be reached. But then again, our manager presumably has not reached that conclusion.

Don't know what has happened to Redmond this season, but he has definately regressed, could be time for Boufal to have a run in the team.

He's definitely out of form and I don't think it's helped by how much he's been played on the left.

Boufal won't get a run in the team. He is always condemed after 1 game.

Fortunately, we have 30,000 fans who know more than the manager. As they did with the last one.

Oh come Archers.............No one has said they know more than the manager. As for the last one a lot thought he wasn't right for the club agreed but that included you. He clearly wasn't as he was sacked. You cannot blame fans for doubting a manager or player or even players if things are not going right on the pitch. Your opinion is as valid as the next you are airing it the same as others..........Isn't that what a forum like this is for?

I'd play anyone over Redmond. Why not Long on the right (use the aerial prowess on Hoedt's exceptional crossfield balls), Tadic left and Manolo up top? I know Long gives us more than Gabbiadini at the moment but cal me speculative...I think we've got more chance of scoring a goal with a proven goalscorer on the pitch

Can anyone explain to me why professional pundits continue to identify him as a real asset whilst fans think the opposite? I thought he had a poor game on Saturday yet at half time Andy Cooke was interviewed pitchside and he described him as a real nuisance. Personally I think he's confused by being pushed out wide again and should be given a role that enables him to come in more. That aside, I think a lot of his issues are simply down to confidence.

Anyone have any idea why Redmond seems so undroppable? To be clear, I'm a Redmond fan as when he's in form I think he's an international quality player, but his form is so patchy that it would make sense to rotate him out every once in a while. However, successive managers have started him in almost all of the games he's been available. Is it because he's one of our only pacy options? Offers good defensive cover? I'm stumped.

Know what you mean, it does seem strange
For the second week running, replacing him with Boufal has improved things

Redmond need to be dropped to the bench for a game or two. He has alot of positives about him as a player, but it is not happening for him at the moment

Redmand's not been the same since his call up to England.
Probably lost focus ready for the call from Klopp

Tadic headed just over from a Redmond cross early in the 1st half.
Redmond was involved in an intricate move in the Newcastle box, which ended with Tadic shooting over the bar.
His cross field pass to Gabbi (a perfectly weighted pass, having now seen it on motd) led directly to Gabbi's goal.

I agree that Boufal grew into the game, & would like to see him given more opportunities. But I don't think Redmond's form is as bad as some people are making out.

I wouldn't mind Redmond, Tadic and Boufal on the pitch together behind Gabbi.

He also tracked back and I remember him winning the ball back a couple of times.

His ball retention is also quite good, he can take the ball down and use his dribbling to keep it well. But that often involves a backwards or sidewards pass at the end of it. Frustrating for the fans but I imagine Pellegrino might think of it as helping control the game.

I didn't think he had a bad game yesterday, but he would do better offensively if he played quicker and with more aggression. But is that down to him or how he's being asked to play?

Maybe Redmond would play better with better players? So Archer's idea of Redmond, Tadic & Boufal behind Gabbi sounds quite good

I just looked at whoscored for his stats to see how many times he won the ball back and noticed they had him as our best attacker after Gabbiadini, despite being subbed off.

4 key passes, 3 more than anyone else, never dispossessed, 3 less than Tadic. 84% pass completion. More completed crosses than anyone else. 100% long ball success with joint highest completed from our attackers. Won the ball back twice, which is still more than our other attackers but Boufal.

If you believe in statistics then he had a good night.
