yes banksy <ok> out of 9 councillours who voted, 6 was for sainsburys and 3 was against. only issue that can happen now is this decision goes to secretary of the state who has 21 days to approve it or not. people on our OS forum thinks there is nothing to worry about but just waiting for that now but were nearly there.

when do you guys get to have another go at ashton vale? or will you be going for the ashton gate redevelopement?

what i dont understand is, so i been told anyway, if sainsburys lost tonight then they could appeal, but if sainsburys won, the locals cant appeal. so why wasnt that the case for you guys? why was the locals allowed to appeal? is it because of the town green thing is a different ball game or as laws/procedures changed since what happened to you?

Yep, different scenario VG laws override planning regs..

I have to say I am very surprised yours went through what with all the nonsense surrounding the Golden Hill Tescos that is what less than a mile away?

Commercial competition not a planning consideration. After all, they don't give planning permission to just one pub per street <ok>

Add that to 'memorial stadium' issues and the type of local you have around there. There were riots over Tesco just 2 miles down the road?

    Fair play though.

all the locals kept banging on about gloucester road shops will be effected that was there mistake really as after 2 people said it, someone for sainsburys said the glos road shops wouldnt get effected and stated why but the locals obviously wasnt listening and kept banging on about it. even a shop owner of pearces hardware shop said his business will be effected. not sure how a hardware shop would be effected by sainsburys. 2/3 councillours who were going to be voting said they would vote against sainsburys due to effect it would cause on glos road obviously listening to opinions and ignoring the facts. it took 1 councillour (cllr comer) to inform everyone that all shops along glos road are cafes, hairdressers and specialist shops that will have no impact on sainsburys and sainsburys will have no impact on them. he said there are are smaller supermarkets already on glos road which has no impact to these shops which is evidence and the shops what will compete with sainsburys like butchers for example will still be in business as there is a lot of support for glos road shops that these people wont just leave glos road shops when sainsburys come so whats the issue. he smashed it. few of the councillours were made to look stupid as they stuck with their decision.

I really do think that the tide is finally turning in Bristol.

Local politicians and the three traditional political parties got their arses handed to them on a plate when Bristolians voted in an independent mayor.

Basically they were told that they'd held back the city for far too long with their nimbyism and rejection of development. Now Glos CC got PP and are redeveloping the County Ground, we've got PP for the UWE Stadium and its enabling development and I think that you'll get a positive outcome when your saga restarts in October.

I hope so, because there's room and an apetite in this city for a couple of decent stadia. Long term this new wave of 'can do' attitude can only benefit both clubs.

think as were up the other end of glos road it worked out well. believe it or not but the mem being for those in the war came up once and that was someone who was in favour of sainsburys. he was very happy with the memorial garden plans.

    A Ping-Pong Ball in a Hole

Your last good ping-pong ball fell down into a narrow metal pipe imbedded in concrete one foot deep.
How can you get it out undamaged, if all the tools you have are your tennis paddle, your shoe-laces, and your plastic water bottle, which does not fit into the pipe?
