I must admit, I thinnk it was pretty much a done deal as soon as Bas came out and said there was no "official" approach made. I think they worded it very carefully to make it sound Watford hadn;t agreed to anything.... plus when they rejected the deal, they knew Malky would ask permission - hence needed to talk with the board, so when Malky did come to ask, whther they would accept that and to also discuss who the next targets would be!
Elixir, I think Joe Starlin would be just the type of manager we need. strict discipliarian (those responsible for poor marking at corners to be sent to the gulag) with a five year plan with the Harefield academy becoming a collective and comrade Eustace apointed political commoisseur in the glorious dressingroom of the republic. Turning the vic into the new Starlingrad would lead to some heroic defensive play.
Do you think Boothroyd would be interested in coming back? I wouldn't mind but i think it will be hessenthaler!
I really like Malky, and I really feel he is a fantastic manager. I have loved having him as a manager, but I really don't feel him leaving (which sounds more and more likely as time goes on) is much of an issue. As someone previously mentioned, I am more looking forward to the appointment of a new manager! I really like the idea of Neil Ardley. I was always a fan of him in his playing days and he fits the mould as a Watford manager. I think the key point is it is almost certain that we won't be employing anybody who is a "house-hold name". Purely because money is generally associated to this. Our previous three managers have been untested, young and inexperienced. I say we stick with this philosophy.
I just want someone who accepts the "Watford Way". Someone who I feel has some engagement with the club, the academy and the community. I don't just want a gun for hire as manager, which is why I tend to prefer someone from the lower leagues or new to management, or even someone from within the club. I think the long-term success of the club depends on nurturing young talent and being involved with the community (to stop local kids supporting Arsenal or whoever). That's how we get good performances on the pitch, and bums on seats in the stands. We need a manager that understands that. One thing that does worry me, if Malky leaves for a pot of gold, what does that say to our young academy talent that we are trying to hang on to and convince them to sign contracts with us rather than the big boys?
I think Millwall would command too much compo for Jackett. I expect it will be an out of work person, someone from the lwoer league or a coach from somewhere (like Ardley)
I've seen the betting, some ludicrous ones, Roy Keane at 20/1!!! I like, ad see the idea of Dave Jones at Watford, he seems the sort of person who would accept that he needs to work with youth and that the budget will be small. Might see us as a bit of a stepping stone to rebuilding his career, but a steady hand through what will be a tough season. However, as managers are in such danger of losing their jobs these days, if he sits tight a much high-profile championship club might remove their manager
Well, if he comes here, he'll feel like he's still working with the youth team anyway!! He was favourite with the bookies yesterday but has slipped down a bit! We have no idea who we're getting but there are rumours we've asked to speak to the Wycombe manager but can't even find the rumour.
Why are the likes of Roy Keane, Dave Jones and Billy Davies being given odds when Joseph Stalin is only 50/1. I can do the translations as he's a bit crusty at the moment, I guess it doesn't help he's been dead for nearly 60 years! The support for Boothroyd bugs me, one good year and 2 years of slide. Thankfully GT isn't that stupid.
Well spotted Harrow, It isn't mine but is similar to the first motorbike I had and loved. I have ridden this one which is as sweet as a nut. If you want it the guy says its not for sale, but its worth over 2 grand! Oh the happy memories! Norway, I never had a 350LC, they were nuts, but I progressed through a few bikes to a Suzuki 550e. Those were the days. Back to topic, the Wycombe views are on Not 606 entitled "Interesting ....... The rumour doing the rounds is that Watford have already asked Wycombe for permission to talk to Waddock. Having thought about it he is my favourite. Where on earth did the Boothroyd talk come from. If they're so keen I have his home address because he's not doing anything!!!
