I agree with some of the posters on there who said it was the old Smith & Nephew ground on Malham Ave.

The houses behind the goal look like the houses on Legarde Avenue which backed onto the ground. See links

I'm pretty sure it's actually the old Hull Brewery ground in Springhead Lane. City Juniors use to play there and it's we're Alf Ramsey's 1966 World Cup squad started their preparations with a 2-0 defeat to City.

Looking at it again i don't think it is the S&N ground off Malham Ave. The Houses behind Jack Charlton are not familier. The links on google maps
i've put up are correct for the S&N ground and i played there as a kid in the 70's It was a lovely little ground with a great pitch.

I'm just about certain it's Springhead Lane/Avenue - I played there a few times (it was often used for cup semi finals/finals). It's not far from Malham Avenue and had a similar aspect.

England U21s trained down at Malham Ave in 71 for their match with Sweden FACT
I witnessed it so there's your proof.
As regards this pic, I reckon it's 'Coates' field' aka S & N sports ground down the bottom of Legarde/Malham. Old man Coates used to live in the house next to the gate and was the groundsman.
I don't remember the Springhead Lane pitch, but the houses in the pic don't look like any off Willerby/Kingston Rd.
Happy to be proved wrong if someone can tell me exactly what road that pic backs onto if not Malham.

The houses you can see are in Mayland Ave. - we used to live in number 51. Definitely the Hull Brewery ground.

Hairy muff.
Will take a closer look next time I'm round that way.

It's depressing that the local paper don't know where the ground is.

In those days it was U23s
I was at the game and I think Brian Kidd scored for England

Yes the ground in my avator is the springhead ground it was a pre-season friendly against Ainthorpe YC/OB played annually and was arranged by the late Fred Ramsden.
As you said in your original post, City Juniors did play at Anlaby Road but they played their last game there in April 1965 - the England game was in October 1965 and City had just started using Springhead. Ainthorpe did continue to play there and I recall them winning the final of the National Youth Clubs Cup (?1967/1968) which was shown live on T.V. at the time.

If that was the game at White City (or was it Crystal Palace) then I was there as Ainthorpe ran so many free busses to the match and it was my first visit to the capital. If I remember Ainthorpe played a London or South Eastern area based team and when Ainthorpe won the officials couldn't have been more disinterested and showed total disrespect towards the Ainthorpe team and officials and anyone who seemed to come from Hull. It was a long day, we left Ainthorpe at around 6:30am and got back at about 11:30pm but it was my first taste of travelling away to a football match.
