Dorian Smith had been on trial with us, playing in a behind closed door friendly and a reserve fixture and did enough to impress Alan Pardew so we signed him, but immediately loaned him back to Non-League Tooting & Mitcham, which seemed a strange move. However Alan Pardew has revealed that although he has returned to Tooting, he will train with the Addicks and can also play for the reserves, where he will be kept a close eye on and Alan Pardew seems to rate him very highly, he told the Addicks website: "We'll loan him back because the manager of Tooting is a good friend of mine and I want him to play, but obviously he is going to improve on our training ground, so I don't think anyone loses. "In all my years as manager and some of my playing years, I cannot remember having non-League players come in and make as big an impact as we've had this year. "Chris Dickson was one, Dorian is another and we had another young non-League player on trial that we are keen to bring back. "What Dorian and Dicko have got is a kind of street football mentality, which I don't know if we are knocking out of players through the academy systems at the minute, because both those players technically are very, very good and do things that are not the norm. "Dorian has got great technical ability, and I would say he's as good a passer as anyone I've got here." Dorian Smith has only signed a contract until the summer but from the sounds of things Alan Pardew could well be looking to keep him longer if he does the right things in training and impresses in the reserves.
