We had an awful run of fixtures at the start of the season against teams we probably would have been happy to pick up the odd point. The problem now out of the bottom eight teams we have lost four of them drawn at Derby & only beaten Sheff Wed, with Coventry still to play. We need to pick up points from teams around us if we are to stand any chance
We missed Stewart that's for sure But we can't expect to stay in this league hoofing the ball anywhere and hoping one of our players latch on to it. I think I saw a couple of times where we put a few passes together (excluding passes back to the goalie). There is no lack of effort but football-wise it was pretty dismal I'm afraid Kashkett needs defence splitting passes he can run onto. He got very little service and more or less had to resort to trying to win the ball himself. Bayo was hardly involved and his main strength is starting to diminish as defences have sussed out how to deal with him. Apart from coming back to defend a corner, he hardly moved more than a few metres from his "spot". It was almost like playing with 10 men. I hate being so cruel towards Bayo because he has been immense for us and his mere presence on return was contributory to us starting to pick up points. Maybe he just had an off day but I think he should have been substituted earlier We need a proper striker and we need to be able to find our players in the box and not leave the opposition with so much space. When I see a winger in acres of space I find myself screaming at the box "Where are our effing defenders" Not one of my happier 80 odd minutes I'm sure we will be better when Adeniran and Stewart are back and Fred is given a bigger role The loan window will be interesting
Just read Gareth's report and he basically said how I summarised the match to my son, which was that Barnsley were pretty poor but were better than us
I was only listening to the game & even Catchpole's commentary could'nt liven the game up, I gave up at half time
