We hung about in a gang....some right nutters But if we saw a cop coming in our direction we would run off in all directions Wouldn't happen now
I use to think my dad was afraid to leave the area incase the communists moved in while he was away Took my mum all her time to get him to go to brid for a day out Daft bugger he was
There's been a gang of youths hanging out on Pearson park all summer, killing cats, hedgehogs, pigeons etc. Bullying other kids and generally pissing everyone off. Most recently they set fire to three park benches including a memorial bench Ffs! When the fire brigade and Police turned up, the youths didn't run anywhere. They just stayed and watched. Apparently the Police said they are aware of the problem, but are powerless to do anything about it. Parents need to get their ****ing fingers out.
We got a smack of the cops if we got Gobby and another couple if we ended up in a cell And our parents would go nuts at us. Still I was a little bastard BUT we knew when to shut the F up My Grandad use to live in the spotted dog pub when it was open from what I remember of him and booze all day and night .. also ran a one man off course bookies on North Hull back in time. And was always with another woman My dad use to swipe grocery's from the big houses in cotty as a way of getting grub for my gran and his brothers and sisters , only because they would have starved in those times if not. Everyone said I was like my grandad as I was I right piss head and a rogue when a lad
You are right Filey. Too many do-gooders. I once got a clip off a copper and then another off me old man when he found out. Where did your gang hang out Filey and what years are you talking?
Ye remember dr Rintoul too. Both good men. I saw Dr Deacon in his house on bev Rd once when I did some work for him. It was 2004 time I think, he must have been well in his 90's then.
I can remember the surgery above the shops in Greenwood. Me Dad used to be the bookies runner when Greenwood was still being built. Most of you lot would have been fed by me Mam, she was a school meals cook for years and worked in most of the schools. We still call people a "shabby bastard" if they win at cards, after "Blind Len" who played dominoes in the Gents room in Greenwood.
Got me thinking about how things have changed. In the old days just go to the doctors on Ellerburn Ave wait a little bit and see a doctor, and they were doing home visits and emergency births. Now ring for an appointment, when someone finally answers the phone you're told you can see the doctor in two weeks.
It's different for me, our local doctors, has never not seen any of my family within a few hours of or making a call. The last time I needed a doctor, I had an appointment 2hrs later in the local hospital out of hours gp clinic. Before that I got an appointment within 30 minutes of ringing.
Only if it's not urgent, you should always be able to get an emergency same day appointment, I certainly can.
Spent a few hours in Madison Park by the pond, watching the world go by...Great spot... PS..Lived on Beeford Grove...for a while...what a dump..
i was a B-Boy and graff artist in the early 80s , one piece is still visible today , tho it wasnt on a prepared wall so extremely faded - we may have Dead Bod , but im told that work is probably the oldest surviving aerosol art piece in Hull - no idea if true lol , we got banned from every youth club in the area thanks to the local councillor who totally didnt understand the Hip Hop thing so we took our antics to the street , where it belongs ..... i guess
Word. Good graffiti done right, and in the right place is a thing of beauty. Badly done for the sole intent of just been **** is not.
Not graffiti, but it used to make me smile as the bus wove it's way past Quaddy shops to see the sign declaring 'Slow children'.
I got knocked over by a car down Greek Street when I was 7. Went over the bonnet then rolled over the nearside wing and onto the ground. The drive didn't stop and drove off. The devil ****s off sharpish when he makes a 7 year old drop his sodding 99! At the time I think I was more upset about that than the broken leg.
