No no. The lad next to me had a picture of Claasen/Odemwingie on his phone (twitter); and showed EVERYONE around us it thinking Odemwingie was playing for us. Therefore, me and the gentlemen around me had a few chants ready, however I thought Mr Odemwingie/Claasen was a photoshop, therefore we stopped. I thought Callum Jaraldo Martin (can't spell his name either) looked a lot like Jay Simpson! Apologies for the confusion!
Ahh I'm with you, I didn't have a clue who he was until he came on! The announcer was shocking as per!
If it was indeed Claasen at Ferriby tonight - sign him up. Based on the video, the lad has great energy, can acellerate at speed from midfield positions, beat a man (several) at pace, pick out a pass, track back & break up opposition attacks...and get into position to score simple goals. He's a dynamo, although not too many shots of his tackling ability, his energy would suggest he has it all. Not sure how good Lierse fare in their league, but he looks excellent. Do we know how much he'll cost and what his injury history has been ?
He was released by Lierse in April 2013. So I guess that would make him a free transfer He had a injury which held him out 3-4 months or so last december and onwards.
The more I look at pictures of him, the more I change my mind. Just the tattoos that are swaying me. Both could be new I suppose.
I dont think it is Daylon Classen now. The offical website lists him as James Armstrong. http://www.hullcityafc.net/news/article/201314-winterton-a-report-916747.aspx
Also according to the official website this is not the first time he has played for us as he is on our reserve team and played back in February for us. http://www.hullcityafc.net/news/article/reserves-report-grimsby-a-684095.aspx?pageView=full#anchored
http://www.lierse.com/files/images/Daylon Claasen_20.jpg I think that is him; just need a peek of the picture taken at Winterton to compare! Plus these are sure it's Claasen Football Covered ‏@FootballCovered 1h Photo: South African midfielder Daylon Claasen is on trial at Hull City (this is not Peter Odemwingie as suggested)
On the road to recovery, so probably a little hesitant if it was him tonight, depending on what the injury was, so may be hard to judge. However, to me he looked excellent (on the video ) - not your Ashbee type, but if you're right , the price is right, IMO it would be worth a punt if the wages are reasonable. He looked a very positive, forward moving midfielder who could bring any mobile striker into play. We need to get a couple of those first of course ! Can anyone else at the game tonight comment ?
Played at Winterton, not Ferriby - my mistake. Brucey should go for Claasen even if it was Armstrong playing tonight ..
We believe James Armstrong is a white 20 year old. That would make the player pictured tonight someone else, and although they usual just get named as Trialist it's not that unusual in friendlies for trialists to be hidden under other players' names.
I thought it was Classen until I saw that link. I wasnt aware it was normal to hide players under other players names.
It's not "normal" to, but it's not as uncommon as you'd think. I've seen it a couple of times with friendlies at Dunfermline when English clubs have been up and I've known the player playing wasn't the one that was named before the game. On a separate note you also get a lot where the player is unnamed in all the press reports and just goes down as A.Trialist, but is announced in the stadium using their real name. Anyway, here's Armstrong's profile on the Sunderland website. http://www.safc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/ReserveSquadProfiles/0,,10281~1695270,00.html please log in to view this image
http://www.ftbpro.com/posts/gary.stevens/159539/everton-take-south-african-daylon-claasen-on-trial Looks like Moyes's departure may have stalled Claasen's chances at Everton. Hope it was him at Winterton tonight - IMO it's just what we need. Despite looking slightly built, the lad has got a lot of fire in him and not afraid to go in where it hurts. He has talent too.
Having never seen Armstrong before I didn't question who he was. The picture of Classen is definitely the number 11 at winterton though. He stood out as the best player on the pitch to me.
He was very good. Was initially in midfield then seemed to switch with aluko. Showed a fair bit of pace. Good little intricate passes. Nice movement. Few good crosses. Took his goal very well. Will be interesting to see how he fares against better opposition.
