A sprinkling of league wins in the 1800's doesn't make for a great, historic club. Realistically, you can only count league wins compared to Newcastle when both teams were actually in the fcking league!!!!! So at least your first two league wins - 1891/2 and 1892/3 don't actually count, as NUFC were in the Northern League until 1893/4 season, when they were "elected" to the Second Division. With that in mind, since the two clubs have been in the same league format, the score is 4-4 in terms of league titles won and is the only possible statistic acceptable.

As that's a draw, the only fair way to consider a richer history is to look at either who won by the biggest score back in 1908 (as per Bri's signature) or - and I reckon this is fairer - by OTHER successes, such as FA Cup wins, European trophy wins, etc. I'm afraid to say that this is where the comparison between the two ends.....

(just to be clear, NUFC - 6 FA Cups and 1 UEFA, SAFC - 2 FA Cups and...erm, that's it)

1 UEFA? When was that I must have missed that?

I concur :D They are now back in their incestuous box, bravo.

1969 Intercities Fairs Cup, subsequently taken over by UEFA in 1971, which then became the UEFA Cup. There was me assuming people on a football forum would know that.....

Which other clubs were good enough to win this prestigious tournament?

If you're saying we count actual, factual league titles then you can't exactly count that. <doh>

He has six fingered hands like all his brethren if that is any help?

What gives me six fingered hands then you ****ing ignorant moron(if you insist on being personal)? Show some manners and respect you pathetic little boy. Always one thick, sweaty little barcode who can't keep to banter and has to abuse people.

By being the highest finishing team who's eligible to qualify.

Not that you'd understand anything about Europe. (It's a group of countries outside of England)

Its like Liverpool supporters on winning the league though, "this is the year" as we are told at the start of each new managerial era....................

I think we were helped out by it being restricted to one club per city though? I could be wrong. Its like the backdoor entry through the Intertoto now I suppose, if a club went on to win it after going through the Intertoto, it wouldn't really count as a European trophy would it? I bet there were no European greats in it the year we won either. No Juventus, Hamburg, Fiorentina, Chelsea, Sporting Lisbon, Lyon, Valencia, Marseille, Leeds, Napoli, Atletico Madrid, or any such type, it was probably all unknowns so it doesn't really count.

Simple fact is it doesn't matter how you qualify.
Everyone starts off with the same chance of qualification within the rules.
Had Sunderland finished above Newcastle they would have qualified but didn't. Tough.

Look at Chelsea last year, qualified for the Europa League by failing in the Champions League.
Denmark won the Euro Championship after another country were kicked out.
Both WINS still count.

getting back to bent, I did about two weeks ago, I wonder if Kinnear could scupper some deals with his out of date views, if I was a player I would sign for nufc over ffc anyday, but would I sign for Kinnear, not so sure, and bent has played with the winger at villa Charles whats his name, who Kinnear made some remark about him

This is the big problem that most of us are seeing (Massive generalization but I think it's minimal risk!). None of us can understand how Kinnear can persuade anyone to join us as he is such a colossal knobhead. I would expect him to spend half the time bragging about how great a DoF he is and the other half explaining why the player is in fact not worth even half of the asking price and then going on a tourettes inflicted rant when he can't get someone like Bent for £500,000 and £15k per week

his time was the 90s we have moved on and so as football, Kinnear is stuck back in those days, I think Ashley liked Kinnear when he played for spurs and is clearly blinkered by him, just when you thought things could not get any worse, in comes joe Kinnear on his horse

Can't see Joking Ear ever signing anyone. Living in the past, bet no-one can understand him in-between expletives and seems he can p.ss anyone off in minutes. DOF, what a joke.

How can a man with so much success in his business dealings such as Mike Ashley appoint such a massive chode-end to lead such a critical part of his business. It beggars belief.

There was me thinking that teams were chosen on a basis of the respective city hosting a trade fair. It must be nice to hold a title recognised by UEFA.

If you want to split hairs about UEFA recognition.

2006 - 07, was this the year that we won the InterToto Cup. Run by UEFA.

Our tour of Europe during that season included trips to far off places like Spain, Turkey, Holland, Germany etc.
Other parts of Europe yet to be seen by SAFC fans other than on TV, probably watching NUFC when they get the chance.
