You can give him the ball as much as you like but if he doesn’t realise that kicking at the goalkeeper means he doesn’t score … he isn’t understanding what scoring a goal means.
Good cross in just now from Smyth, straight on to Dykes' head. On target with so much spin the keeper struggles. Nearly 1-0. Point made within minutes of this match.
Nope. Near chance. Unless you're looking for a striker who scores every time he touches the ball. Which a) doesn't exist and b) we wouldn't afford it it does. The point made is that he can be useful if we play to his strengths.
My actual main point though is that we haven't had a manager in a while who really looks at and plays to a number of our players strengths. Cifuentes hasn't had long, to be fair. But I'd say the players who would benefit from a bit more insight would be Dykes, Smyth, Dozzel and Field, rather than forcing them to play slightly unnatural roles, among others. I think Cifuentes has done well with Chair. Previous managers have given him too much free reign, which he tends to get lost in and starts making bad decisions. He seems to be under stricter direction with Cifuentes.
I think by now Cif knows without key players we have weaknesses that can't be covered by the 2nd string. Our opponents don't take too long to sus out how to take advantage. If it's true the board won't stump up to strengthen this window we really haven't a hope. Striker, central midfielder and centre back are minimum to have decent chance of staying up. I don't think he'll change his style of play now so it's going to be a scary ride...
Surely he has to stop that ridiculous goal kick routine, always causes us problems as players are not good or smart enough to play it
A coach should be identifying solutions, seems every coach now relies on Copy and Paste ideas from a textbook, whether it suits their players or not.
