Agree that it was a game of thirds, we had them well under control for the first third, a pretty even middle third, then the last third we had to really grind it out to the end. The last third was probably the most tense I've been during a match this season.

    As for ratings;

Krul 7.5 - did what he needed to, a couple of good saves but some poor distribution at times.
Simpson 7 - caught out of position a few times but solid enough.
S Taylor 8 - One half of one of the best CB pairings in the league.
Colo 8.5 - one of the classiest CB's in the league, so classy on the ball
R Taylor 8.5 - what a goal! Kept Osman out of the game. Solid.
Marv 7 - first PL start and it showed a bit. Some good moments, will get better with games.
Cabaye 6 - went off early, but was playing the same workman like shift as he did v Stoke
Guthrie 8 - the biggest compliment I can say is that we didn't miss Tiote in the last two games because of him.
Jonas 7.5 - worked his nuts off again and was more a defensive asset today. Knackered come the end.
Best 7 - troubled defenders but offside far far too often.
Ba 7.5 - had to work very hard for the team today.

Gosling 6 - pretty average but he's so short of match practice.
Ben Arfa 6.5 - some good runs but should have passed a lot more when he had the chance. Match sharpness again.
Sammy 6.5 - some good runs down the left, some inexperienced decisions.

Would hardly say he did nothing!
Please, take off your black and white tinted shades and see that he is a quality player. Not saying Ben Arfa isn't by that. DO NOT interpret me saying this as 'Ben Arfa bashing' I just think he was outplayed by his opposite number.

I love how you use the word 'rape' so casually, almost as if the meaning of the word is lost on you <laugh>

Ryan Taylor in 8.5 by some people, yes he scored but he made a schoolboy error for me today, and that goal was a fluke. Man of the Match was Coloccini who was brilliant today.

Ben Arfa looked a lot better mentally today, he didn't back out of challenges at all and even went in for a few, he's improving to say the least and the mentality problem is being worked on from the looks of it. All he needs to do is pass more.

I thought Ben Arfa was brilliant when he came on. He's one of those players that has the gift of the ball just sticking to their feet, and he managed to keep the ball with about 4 players around him, which was great for releiving pressure. Granted he didn't actually trouble their defence but I think Pardew was just telling the team to hang onto the ball for as long as possible.

Sammy on the other hand was the complete opposite. Drove at their defence and caused problems, but was quite naiive in terms of giving the ball back to Everton.

Also thought Marv was pretty anonymous. It was frustrating because the one time he found a bit of space I thought 'show us what you can do', then Heitinga hacked him and he got injured.

  17. I think Marv was pretty good tbh. 2nd half he drifted quite a while, but 1st half he was part of the game quite a lot. He put in some decent balls and made some good runs.

I agree, he was good at dispossessing the opposition and had good movement before he got injured. Good vision too.

  19. His sprint speed pales in comparison to Obertan's , but Marv is so quick off the mark and so direct. He uses his speed better than Obertan uses his.

I wanted to see more of him, but people forget it's his first premier league start and are saying this and that about him, much like when Ben Arfa returned.
