after 30odd games playing the same old negative way with no passion at all MoN can thank himself lucky he lasted this long. Its time for a new man to try and install some fight into the side and keep us up because if he had stayed we were going down with a whimper.

I like Martin and thank him for keeping us up last season but IMO this is a good move by Short. Who knows if the new man will keep us up but things need to and hopefully will change, the players need to be playing for the shirt which they have not done all season IMO and the tactics need to be much more imaginative, if that is the case then we can at least say we give it a go.

Good luck to Martin I think thats it for him as a football manager, his time has been and gone and I think he will know that.
 
I agree with this.

I wanted MON in because I thought he could do an Aston Villa with us. Unfortunately he hasn't done this. I wasn't expecting miracles this season, but to be 1 point above the relegation zone is a f**king disgrace.

MON's days as a manager are outnumbered I feel. He hasn't evolved with the game, and still trys to play counter attack football.
We need a young, agrressive manager with flair & who will install confidence in the squad. We need new ideas.

This is a shrewd decision by Short, and I think it is the right one. The writing has been on the wall for a few weeks now, this is not just a rash decision by Short.
The only worry is we are talking to a manager now, so it is someone clearly out of the job (otherwise the club the manager is at the minute would probably make it public). These talks must of been going on for ages....

I honestly have a feeling it is going to be McClaren. If it is we are doomed. I hope its either RDM & DiCanio. Its time to try foreign.
 
I think the bloke just got left behind. His tactics were still the same old Clough tactics from 30-40 years ago with a minor tweak here and there. He got away with it at Villa but the game has evolved again. Just way too negative and his biggest attribute - motivation - seems to have gone. Maybe things away from football have now taken precedence, and he was kidding himself coming back in the first place. I don't think his heart is in it.
 
I personally think he lost the dressing room. Can't speak for yesterday as i never saw the game but for the last couple of months at least, there has been very little sign from the players that they were remotely motivated. I couldn't beleive what i was watching against Norwich, no effort, no urgency, no skill, ****ing pathetic attempt to win a football match. Even O'Niel didn't look too concerned standing on the sidelines with his arms folded, very little signs of any emotions at all, i think he knew back then what his fate was.
