Looked it up, must have been October 71 (as the 1970 game was in August before I got there - also a 0-1 win). Looks like Lorimer scored but I don’t remember, what I remember is they couldn’t get anywhere with penetrating our midfield and defence, every attack they had seemed to peter out.
Those were the days and I really hope that one day things will go in that direction. Signs are good at the moment but I'm not counting my chickens
I would never have accepted him, that I do know. We'd gone to Zurich for the away leg in the European Cup and when we arrived we heard clough had been sacked, how we cheered. Manny Cussins did say my friend Sue and I could be manager but when we got back to Leeds the next day they'd appointed Jimmy Armfield.
I know it made Clough a very rich man getting his payout and years later I met Martin ONeil and asked him what he wanted to do when he reires and he said earn as much money as Cloughie
Agree Heidi, Giles was the man to take the reins at ER after Don left Leeds. Jimmy did well for us considering the circumstances & was robbed of the elite European trophy Billy & Johnny will always be my favourite players
Heidi I see you co wrote a book about the 80;s why was Cantona sold that always remains a mystery to me and why only 1m when he was worth 8m at the time
I couldn’t believe it had happened and at £1 million it was sacrilege. The rumour mill although that’s all it may have been, was he’d had an affair with Chapman’s wife and it was due to this causing upset in the team. Thing is he was the final piece in the jigsaw for scum and they went forwards. A big mistake from my view as well as selling him to your rivals at a knockdown price. Not sure if it was Fotherby who saw it as a too good opportunity to miss
