With one of the strongest squads in the league, it would be a grave injustice if we finished lower than 5th.
Henderson - will grow into a top player. Adam- a great purchase, someone with vision. Doni- not sure how many games will play Downing - gives us much needed width Enrique - a fighter, just what we needed since selling riise Bellamy - has a point to prove Coates - one for the future Exciting times ahead. We have strengthened in all areas
Aren't you worried about your strike force? What happens if Adebayor gets injured? You are left with Defoe and Pavlyuchenko who weren't brilliant last season. Are you not worried about Van Der Vaart picking up little injures quite often? Are you happy with your defence after your displays in the first two games? (I know that you played United and City) I think Spurs have a decent squad but still have issues to sort out. By the way, you finished 5th last season. Do you think that you have strengthened enough to keep that spot considering other teams around you have significantly strengthened? Sorry for the rather high amount of questions!
I'd say value for money wise, Enrique will be the best business you'll do for years, dont rate Henderson at all but havent seen him for you yet so cant comment. Is Carroll looking any better yet?
What I don't understand is that people tell us they haven't seen much of our new signings, but still call them average. If you haven't seen enough of them, then don't pass comment, simple.
Why would it be an 'injustice'? After 38 games, I don't think many can argue they've been hard done by to finish where they do. You deserved 5th last year, and we deserved 6th.
I think our signings have addressed the area's that we needed most. Ok, they aren't World class, but we didn't have a World class squad to start with. We needed an established left back and seemed to have got a brilliant one in Enrique. We also needed width which we have in Downing. Henderson gives us the energy that Kuyt normally gives and is his natural sucessor I believe. He also puts in some brilliant crosses. Anyone watching the Bolton game and the U21 game can see that. Adam is the deep lying play maker that we haven't had since Alonso left. He's not as good but hes good enough. Coates will hopefully be a long term replacement for Carragher but who knows how he'll turn out. I think now he have a squad, we can do what United do every Summer and spend money on 2 big players to move the team onto the next level.
If that was aimed at me it's because I saw Henderson at Sunderland and thought he was average and out of his depth, but dont know if he's improved for you since signing.
It wasn't at you mate. I didn't see your comment before I posted it, and you even said you hadn't seen enough of him for us. I was talking about some posters on the first page of this thread and on most of the other Henderson realted threads on our boards.
Fair enough, has he looked good for you? Hadnt looked the same at Sunderland since he got the England call up I thought.
He did in the last game against Bolton, which is hopefully how he'll continue. He was solid without being spectacular in the opening two games. All in all a decent start so far for him though.
No, I honestly don't. Sure, you're probably a bit stronger than you were at the start of last season, but that's not much of a boast.
What you've got to bear in mind is this. We finished 4th without VDV, and without Modric for 5 months of that season. THudd was our most influential player when we finished 4th. I'm actually one of the very few Spurs fans who doesn't see us as having improved by getting in VDV. In fact, I think he has caused us to go backwards. He's disrupted the balance in our team and has been the reason why our strikers have been so ineffective. His being out for the next 10 games or so (with his hamstring injury) is going to be a good thing for the long-term future of our squad IMO. I doubt that our strikers will have as bad a season as we had last season - they are not that bad. If Adebayor finds anything like the form he had for Real Madrid, he is going to be awesome for us. As will Parker, in whom we, at long last, have a very effective and experienced DM, something we have lacked for a very long time. In Dawson and King, we have two of the best CB's in the English game, and in the likes of Ekotto, Walker, Bassong, Corluka and Kaboul, we have very able defenders in our squad. However, the greatest factor we have going for us is that our squad had now been together for quite a few games and have the benefit of having gelled together. Having kept our lynch-pin (Modric) was very important to us, as Harry built the team around him. That factor has been greatly under-estimated by all the pundits. So, yes, I do think that we remain in good shape, and are more than capable of finishing 4th this season.
You spurs fans are funny, you qualified 2 years ago for the CL for the first time and ever since you've got delusions of grandeur. Have you considered your club are now in the europa league and that noose of a tournament will choke your squad to its limit?.
Page Moss, One flash in the pan stint in the CL and now it's their right and the norm for them to be in the CL. It was nothing to do with the fact that we had a meltdown that season and City bottled it right at the end... RE Hoddle is a god, Yea your team looked real gelled and together when Man City destroyed you, losing is one thing, but that display was embarrassing. Harry has lost the dressing room, so how that constitutes a gelled squad is anyone's guess...
So you think you'll finish above us???? Not a ****ing chance. Tithead. As long as you've got a tit on your head you'll never finish above us again.
