With 21 weeks to go till the greatest week of horse racing bar none I have decided that every Sunday between now and then I will be having a double on the two horses that made my Cheltenham so special this year. The size of the bet each week will depend on how much profit/loss I made that week and obviously the odds will change each week, hopefully they will get shorter!
Ladbrokes are the recipient of the double this week as they are top priced on both my fancies.
The horses in the bet are THE NEW ONE Champion Hurdle 8-1 and AT FISHERS CROSS World Hurdle 4-1. I guess the first hope is that they both arrive at Cheltenham. So much can happen between now and then.
With a bit of luck I hope to get to March with a significant wager on to really spice things up.

Anyone doing anything similar?

I will have a few bob on Hurricane Fly before the Morgiana - I think he'll slam Our Conor and shorten to 9/4 fav for the Champion Hurdle. I may well chuck a few quid at Big Buck's before time as well although I can't help thinking Paul Nicholls fortunes are generally on the decline.

Yes Stick I have been backing CHAMPAGNE FEVER 8/1 for the Arkle, in the hope he gets there and I have guessed the right race!! On him for his bumper win & his Supreme win so owes me nothing!

I shall be putting a bit on The Fly and Quevega double everyweek! I would like to put BB in there as a single but just bit unsure if he will get there. WIll wait and see

I like that double, if Big Bucks doesnt make it, At Fishers Cross will be hard to beat as long as the ground isnt too fast, and I also like The New One, think he has a serious engine but I am worried about the jockey.

I was thinking the very same after seeing some of his runners run poorly this weekend... He still has some good horses but i'm not sure that its enough for him to dine out at the very top table this year... Still time for him to turn the yard around as its very early in the season to be putting the dampers on him. But there seems to be some better yards than his running out at the moment...

Yep I do something similar, I pop into the bookies whilst walking the dog, so far I've hit many bet combo's on .......

CHAMPAGNE FEVER - Arkle
MY TENT OR YOURS and THE NEW ONE - Champion Hurdle
AT FISHERS CROSS - World Hurdle
BOBS WORTH - Gold Cup

Also got nibbles on .........
SIMONSIG - King George
UN ATOUT - Jewson
SIMONSIg - RyanAir

I did a bet after Cheltenham

The New One - 8/1
Sprinter Sacre - 2/5
Big Bucks - 3/1
Silviniano Conti - 12/1

4 x £5 trebles 1 x £5 acc

I can see legs in the quote of 8’s for The New One but Sticky, old boy, I’d would not want to be seen anywhere near that quote of 4/1 for At Fishers Cross in the World Hurdle. I know that value, like beauty and fine art, is very much in the eye of the beholder but to me that is terrible as he’s never run out of novice or handicap company and had a very hard season last term something that many young horses either don’t recover from or come on for. Also, I can’t see, even if everything goes to plan, At Fishers Cross starting any shorter than 4/1 in 5 months time – say he has 3 runs and wins all 3 by 10 lengths. That would be the perfect prep but would it entitle him, or see him, to be shorter than 4’s with possibility of him then facing Big Bucks, Solwhit, Zakander and A.N.Other in opposition come March???

Meanwhile, I’d question the sanity of anyone backing either Sprinter Sacre or Quevega at very, very short odds 5 months before the actual contest! Cor blimey, given the fragility of the NH breed and the brutal nature of the sport I’d want at least Evens – 6/4 about either even making the line-up let alone winning the bally race!

Finally, you need to be either brave or foolish to back novices at the Festival these days this far in advance as who can say with any certainty what actual novice event the said beast will run in (and that includes the horses connections)?!? Quite ridiculously these days there are, of course, 3 novice championship events in both the chasing and hurdling divisions.

Totally agree Sir Barney. I have lost count of the number of times i have backed soemthing for the Arkle only to see it pop up in the Jewson or in the Triumph and watch it in the Supreme Novices. If I do ante post at Cheltenham now it's very smnall stake multiples or needs to be stonking value for a single. Increasingly the bookies do not want to play the game.

I would have to concur with that. These people have little COMMON SENSE in my opinion!!!I remember seeing so many ante post bets last year being ripped up long before Cheltenham got underway...

The Jewson is a G1 this season which makes the Arkle ante post market significantly trickier than usual.

Very valid point Barney but in reply. I feel I have two horses that god willing will almost certainly run in the races I am backing them to win and secondly, if Big Bucks isn't back to his best or suffers a recurrence of his injury then three ten length victories will see AT FISHERS CROSS go off at odds on in March!

William hill go 5s for champagne fever to win any race at chelts,I think he will be aimed at get arkle but you never know, now that's a horse who loves the hill!

Not a cheltenham bet but maarek to win on saturday @ 3's will love the ground have bit on today on him and will continue thruout the week as im sure roto will have too
