3 goals against Divi

I'm going to have to disagree with you again Funky. He is too small to play up front on his own. Dick has said it doesn't work. When he plays on the left he doesn't do enough defensively. I think Defoe will score goals but he is playing in front of PVA who needs all the help he can get. Defoe doesn't have the discipline for that role. I would rather we had a player who knew how to play that position. Clearly the whole thing is not being helped by the fact that we have to play either Graham or Fletcher as they are both poor and don't bring much to the team. I think Defoe is built for 4-4-2. Not 4-3-3. He is the type of player you build your team around or you don't play him. Rather like Bent. Yes he has 5 goals but 3 in the league cup against poor opposition (even Rodders scored 2). personally I would play him up front and play Watmore or Johnson when fit. Hopefully a striker will be brought in. What does everyone else think? Can Defoe play on the left in the 4-3-3?

I'm not talking about central, dick won't play him there for long spells so that part is established null and void. I'm talking about where Dick will play him.

He's doing very well this season. Apart from defensively he's done grand switching and swapping with lens, they're causing all kinds of problems. He doesn't need a special talant to trackback so for anyone to say he can't(meaning incapable) is bollocks, it's a matter of effort not skill. Saying he can't to me is implying that he can't make anymore effort which I disagree with.

Potentially the best player at the club in most of our lifetimes.

We have the option to buy and hold all the cards, if he keeps going as he is we must try and tie this up in January.

We may still lose him seasons end, but we'd make a massive profit on the lad worst case scenario.
I'm so gutted I haven't seen him live yet, stupid bloody wedding!!
Are we talking Schwarz, Hutchison, Ki class in the middle? They're the best ball players I've seen. Really showing up Catts in terms of quality with the ball

From what i've seen of him (seen all but the under 21 headbutt game), he's an excellent tackler, has great presence in the midfield, is composed and not easily scared off he ball. He is also a very good passer - see the one made to Defoe in the Villa game. He's much better technically than Catts in the same role, i would have him in there in front of Catts, even if he's not on a downer. Out of those 3, im not to sure. Didnt see many games when I was a lad with Hutch and Schwarz, but I think Ki was a different kind of player. Ki's passing was excellent, but his def abilities not as good.

If it was between him and Catts there is no competition at all. But I think we need both (or at least a player like Catts alongside M'Vila.) Gives M'Vila a little more freedom to move with the ball. I prefer that and would hate to see him "reigned in". He's a class player with amazing ability. Pass, tackle, shoot. Hell I reckon you could stick him in goal and he'd do well!!

I think he could be better than all of them. Could even be talking world class. A lot depends on his off pitch attitude but I think he'll move onto bigger and better things. If we sign him I think we'd make a **** load provided he doesn't become a PR problem. You can really see why he was linked to CL clubs before Russia

I can't believe just how good he is! Hope it stays like that for the season as he looks such a good player and one if the best we've had in there in my lifetime!

All international loan deals have a compulsory buy out. Problem is we need to sign him in January if he stays at this level as he'll have far bigger sides after him

Dont international loans normally have extortionate buy outs in them sometimes? Like 30million pounds and that, just to get by that kinda thing of an international club not wanting to sell, just loan?

Yeah but I'm sure M'Vila is around 3 or 4 million.
